Double Jeopardy Film Review

Ranked #26,210 in Entertainment, #321,544 overall

Starring Ashley Judd, Tommy Lee Jones, Annabeth Gish, Bruce Greenwood

The premise to this film is highly original but you can't help but feel more could've been done with it. Libby Parsons (Judd) is living a suburban dream with a supposedly adoring husband. Right up until she lands in prison for his murder, after he gets together with her best friend to frame her. They then collect the $2 million in insurance and run off together with her son. How's that for a knife in the back? Never fear, for our heroine learns from a fellow inmate the joys of double jeopardy, a law that states you can't be convicted twice for the same crime. Translation? When she's out of the big house she can kill the slimy bastard consequence free.

Now you might be thinking I've been a bad little film critic and spoilt the twist for you but you find this all out in the first part of the movie. You can find it out just from the trailer for Pete's sake. Not to mention the title... And that's the problem really. When you put the twist, the little trick that makes your movie special, at the beginning, the rest becomes a regular action flick. This film had the dreaded p-word ('potential' for the uninitiated) but never quite lived up to it.

What I learned from watching this movie...

Prison can always be relied upon to transform you into a lean, mean, fighting machine.

What did you learn?

I enjoyed the movie when I watched it. (And I've watched it several times since then... and each time, I was pleased with the flick.) Nice lens!

It was definitely a decent movie which I just watched for the first time recently. I love both Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd. However, a better movie with a similar, yet not parallel plot and premise was FRACTURE with Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. I believe it simply had more elements of truly evil intent and intensity which Double Jeopardy lacked. Of course, this is just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I LOVE filmmaking. The process, the art, the industry. I'm not involved with it, I just watch from the sidelines. After having paid 10 bucks for a ticket!
