About Douglas Kurtz
Doug Kurtz is a published novelist, certified life coach and the owner of Write Life Coaching (www.writelifecoaching.com). He earned his MA in creative writing at the University of Colorado, where he also taught fiction writing. He currently lives in Boulder, where he's busy coaching other writers and working on his next novel.
"As with most writers, my employment history is varied and sketchy. I've worked as a short-order cook in restaurants where I wouldn't eat; as a car salesman with a commission-free conscience; as an adventure guide for the marginally adventurous; as a carpenter with rented tools; as an apartment complex manager with a rent complex; as a test-prep instructor for aspiring graduate students, MBAs and lawyers; as a trainer for aspiring instructors; as a creative writing teacher for writers more talented than myself; as an editor for untalented writers; and as a copywriter just for the thrill of it.
Some call me multi-faceted, others capricious, but that's okay with me. My
dream is to be a novelist, and the pursuit of it keeps me in a constant state of uncertainty and suspense. I can hardly wait to see what happens next, and I hope my readers will say the same."
Mosquito by Douglas Kurtz
Adventure tour guide Ben Baxter blames himself for a disaster in his past: Three of his clients were killed in an accident that Ben feels was his fault. While preparing for his "comeback" eco-tour, Ben meets a charming but distressed young woman named Poppy, unaware that she is carrying a satchel full of cash and some suspicious photographs belonging to a murder victim. When he innocently invites her on the tour, he unwittingly sets the wheels in motion for a desperate showdown between Poppy and the homicidal guard who is pursuing her and her money. Ben's faulty judgments begin to snowball, until he must confront the fact that he has trapped himself in a situation beyond his control. Now the welfare of the wildlife in the national parks is in jeopardy, as well as the safety of his clients. This creative, suspenseful thriller holds the reader in a vise-like grip from beginning to end.Sample Chapters

- I love hiking in the mountains, so when I saw that this book was set in a national park, I dived right into it. Good decision. A very exciting story with a fantastic premise, and good characters, especially the wilderness guide.
