Where to find free music

You might not have known this, but it is quite simple to get free music.  And I'm talking about downloading it legally!

MySpace

Yes, there's a lot of free music on myspace. Just go to myspace music and see all the artists. Chances are your favorite band has a myspace page.

If your favorite band is Taking Back Sunday, just type "http://myspace.com/takingbacksunday" in your browser and you'll get to their page.

If you look at their music player, there might be a "download" option. Look under each song title to check. If it is not downloadable, you can always listen for free.

PureVolume

Similar to myspace, PureVolume has page after page of free MP3 downloads from your favorite artists.

PureVolume is focused on music and not on social networking, so you'll find a nice collection of music. The site is much faster and easier to browse than myspace, which is perfect if you want to download music.

Just browse for your favorite band and look for the "download" button beside your favorite song.

Ruckus

Free music for college kids!

That's right, free music!

Anyone with a .edu email address can sign-up and get totally free music downloads. They download super fast too!

If you go to Ruckus.com you can sign-up easily and download their software. Then you just browse their site and click "download" beside any album you want. Just repeat the process till you are satisfied!

Tunebite

Want to convert your Ruckus music from protected WMA files to unprotected MP3s?

You can with Tunebite.

It's software that allows you to convert protected music files to unprotected MP3 files using your computer's sound card. According to their website it is completely legal :)

Now you do have to pay for Tunebite, but it's only like the cost of a CD or two.

Pandora

No music downloads, but there is a lot of good music you can listen to for free.

This site (Pandora) is truly remarkable. It's a totally free online radio station that adapts to what you like and picks out new songs that it thinks you will like.

In my experience, it does a great job matching new songs to your likes!

(You can even get it through your cell phone these days.)
