The web and the online video

Online video sharing is growing very fast. The initial intention is for a user to upload, view and share video clips with other user. If you find a video that you'd like to keep, the only way to make sure you'll find it anytime will be to download it, ans save on your drive. YouTube doesn't provide that possibility, but there are many way to do it.

Online solution

The easy solution is to go to a website that provides download services for YouTube or other video sharing site.

Here is a list of 10 sites I did test.
  • IlikeYouTube.com
With this site you can search YouTube videos, once you have found the one you need, you can save it on your drive in couple of clicks. If you have the url of the video to save, you can download it directly from the download page.
    www.ilikeyoutube.com

  • Video Downloader 2.0
With this site, you'll need to have the url of the video you want to save. There is a large list of supported video sharing websites.
    javimoya.com

  • Kcoolonline
This site is very similar to the previous one. You'll need the url to download, and it currently support 98 video sharing web sites.
    www.kcoolonline.com

  • SaveTube
Same as the both above, but add the possibility to see the last downloaded video
    www.savetube.com

How to watch an FLV video

flv is the file exentsin .flv

Once you have downloaded a video, you'll have a file called name of the file.flv.

Flash Video (flv) is viewable on most operating systems, via the widely available Adobe Flash Player. For that reason, this is the format used for online video sharing.

In order to watch that video, you'll need an flv player. I recommend to use the VLC Media Player, which support many audio and video codecs and file format, and in addition it's a free software.
