Parents Blogging About Down's Syndrome
For parents of children with Down's Syndrome (also known as Downs Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Trisomy 21, DS, and T21), the world can sometimes seem like a hostile and unsympathetic place.
We are cast alternately as demons, for allowing perceived genetically abnormal people to survive, or as saints doing charitable work.
We are neither.
We are parents.
We do the best for our children whatever their strengths, weaknesses, talents or disabilities, as any parent does. Having a child with Down's Syndrome is no different, other than there are some in the world who would make it more difficult for our children to grow up and lead full and productive lives.
This Lens has been created to give a list of blog sites by parents of children with Down's Syndrome where you will find, for the most part, they are much like any other parenting blogs.
(Entries on my own blog about Down's Syndrome can be found here)
If you would like me to add any others, or any of the links are no longer active, then please leave a comment in the guest book below.

- UCLA Extension's Pathway program is hosting a FREE informational live video chat on Nov. 16th at 2 p.m. for young adults 18-25 with down syndrome, autism, and aspergers. We will discuss what's next after high school, independent living, meaningful employment, and much more.
We would love for you to join us. For more information, please go to our event page: http://uclaexlivechat.eventbrite.com/.
To submit questions in advance, email livechat@uclaextension.edu.
We'd appreciate any help in spreading the word. We want to hear from mothers, teachers, and advocates who want more insight on how to better the lives of their loved ones.

- There's no right or wrong way to blog - you just do it. Some people blog about their day-to-day activities, others about their work, or their hobbies, or their passions. Some write reviews, some post videos, some track events. Some people post every day, others once a week.
Most blogs change over time - they start with one idea in mind and then evolve. Really it just comes down to making a start and doing it. Fairly soon you will find what's working and what isn't.
All I can really advise is to just go for it :)

- Straight to the point! You've provided lots of useful places for parents without making them wade through lots of frills and ads. Blessed by a squid angel and featured on You've Been Blessed.

- Just browsing here. On 25 October 1989 I had my second child Sam who has Down's. I remember everyone feeling sorry for me and my husband that we hadn't got a normal child. Maybe we should try for another child and maybe we would have a son. He's 21 now. Works and goes to college. Raises money for charities (not learning disability). He has a vast and varied social life. He's well travelled all over the world and has represented his school in South African townships forging links with schools there. Plays sport, loves singing, dancing and acting. He can talk at length on a variety of subjects including current affairs and the state of the world. He is compassionate, kind and the funniest person I have ever met. Having watched the riots across my country (England) over the last few days I was just having a thought. Was it me that had the abnormal chlld on that October day in 1989? Mmmmmm...........

- It reminds me of one parent who once said, "well at least I know my child is less likely to become a crack dealer or a politician..." :)
