Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey is a TV period costume drama set in rural England. It is quickly becoming an iconic tv series with many, many followers. Of course, books, DVD's, calendars etc are now being produced to quench a building thirst for fans. These items make perfect gifts for anyone with an interest in the series and with Christmas coming they'll certainly be amongst the top sellers this year.

The stately home used for filming is Highclere House which is in the beautiful Berkshire countryside. In the series, it becomes the home to the Earl and Countess of Grantham.

The programme depicts the loves and lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and the servants that work for them. Scenes show how life was for the gentry of the time and the servants too. The current series features scenes from the First World War and is based in years 1916-1918.

The second series of Downton Abbey has just been aired on UK tv screens and attracted an audience of some 9.7 million viewers. The show has also just won six emmy awards!

Downton Abbey Books

Books on Downton Abbey seem to fall into various genres. You can find factual information about Highclere House, which is the house portrayed as Downton Abbey in the series. You can find fictional books reflecting the programme too. I've also found individual books about various characters in the series which should make for interesting reading.

Whichever you choose, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! They'll each make perfect gifts for fans too.

Downton Abbey Gifts

There's a vast variety of gifts appearing daily relating to Downton Abbey. Of course, books are always popular and you can purchase books on the making of Downton Abbey, the story of the Grantham family and also about the history of Highclere House.

You may be buying for yourself or a gift for a friend or relative. Maybe you just want to listen to the theme tune which is just wonderful to listen to.

DVD's and Blu Ray are popular choices too and can be viewed time and time again. I've seen calendars now available and with the New Year approaching I'm sure they'll be a winner!

I'll add more options as I come across them and I'm sure I'll find plenty more products over the coming months.

Download The Theme Tune

MP3's are a popular choice nowadays for buying music. With the arrival of such gadgets as ipods and an array of other electronic devices, MP3's seem to be the way to purchase tunes that you love. Of course, it's an instant way of getting your music too!

Downton Abbey Collectibles

A variety of collectible items are available on ebay. When I searched, I also found items that relate to The Queen and also to Maggie Smith. ( Maggie Smith plays the part of Violet Crawley, mother to Earl Grantham) From postcards to books and posters, they all seem to pop up from time to time on ebay auctions and I imagine over time the choice will grow.

I'm obsessed with Downton. I live just down the road from Highclere Castle (where it's set), so I'm lucky that I can see "it" anytime I want. It's beautiful - as is the TV show x

I really love period pieces, I enjoy reading them too. We don't really get these over here in the US, it is a shame. They are so clever, that video was hysterical. And the Downton video looks interesting. I love that older actress. I wish I could think of her name. Anyway, Bravo! Blessed!

I love period dramas like this, especially from the beginning of the 20th century. I was a fan of Upstairs Downstairs too. The 2nd series of Downton Abbey started well, looking forward to the rest of it.

This is the exact style of ring that many women would have worn in the period portrayed in Downton Abbey. Isn't it fabulous? I have a ring from 1909 but unfortunately I couldn't find one like it that is typical of the era. However, rings from that time are still stunning on any hand and make a perfect gift for any occasion.
