Are you a horse lover?

Horses are easy to like if you can get past their itimidating size. They are very friendly and curious and generally like most people. They are good at reading body language, so if you are afraid of them, they are likely to be afraid of you.

Some horse lovers think of them as pets, like one of their dogs or cats - the only difference is that they can't live in your house (usually!).

Because horses are rarely used as a piece of equipment necessary for transportation or farming any more, they have become an animal that is used for sport or recreation. Many horse owners spend lots of money to feed, house, train, and care for them.

There are three Olympic sports that use horses: Dressage, Jumping, and Eventing. If you want to know more go to Opympic Horse Sports.

Types of Horses

A Horse For Everyone

There are many breeds of horses. Some are better suited for riding while others are bred for pulling a cart or carriage. Some horses are very tall while others aren't much bigger than a large dog. One type of horse is better for English riding while others are better for Western riding, however horses can be very versatile and are able to perform in lots of areas. Thoroughbreds are usually bred for racing but they also perform well at dressage, hunter/jumper sports, as well as some western disciplines. Horses were domesticated hundreds of years ago and have been used by man for riding and other forms of transportation, as well as animals for farming.

There are many horse breed registries in countries all over the world. If you want to find one visit this website: Horse Breeds and clink on the type of breed to see all the registries. Each one has specific conformation and pedigree requirements. Some are very purebred type registries only allowing horses with pure pedigrees into their books, while others are looking for specific types and are more liberal with the pedigree requirements. Many of them have specific brands that are usually placed on the horses left hip when they are accepted into the registry. There are also a lot of mixed breed horses with no registration papers performing well in many areas or the horse world.

Whatever horse sport or job that you want to do - there is a horse out there that can do it for you. They come in lots of colors, shapes, sizes, and temperaments. You can even have one just to decorate your yard or pasture!

The Society was formed to alleviate the injustices animals faced then, and we continue to battle cruelty today. Whether it's saving a pet who has been accidentally poisoned, fighting to pass humane laws, rescuing animals from abuse or sharing resources wi

We at Squidoo passionately believe in creating new ways to support good causes online. By making a donation to ASPCA from this page, you are sending money directly to that organization, in whatever amount you want. We don't touch it. We don't even see it. The author of this page doesn't either. And if you made it this far, thanks for caring.
