How I got involved with the Relay For Life...
A few years ago, I lost my aunt to cancer. She fought the disease for many years before she died. I live in Michigan and she lived in Florida. I wanted to be there to help her. I would have loved to be able to take her to doctor's appointments, to make dinner for her, to clean her house for her. But from 1500 miles away, there wasn't much I could do to help. So instead I got involved with the Relay for Life. The Relay is about the most fun you can have while doing something really important for the battle against cancer. I have participated in my local Relay for four years, one year as a team member, and 3 years as a team captain. The first few years I walked in her honor and now I walk to honor her memory.
Relay For Life (often shortened to Relay) is the main volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. Originating in the United States, the Relay For Life event has spread to 21 countries worldwide http://www.cancer.org/docroot/par/content/PAR_1_3_International_Relay_For_Life.asp. Relay events are held in local communities, campus universities, military bases, and in cyberspace. Although the main objective of Relay is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients, the event is held to spread cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those who lost their lives to cancer, and unite a community in the fight against cancer. It is estimated that Relay For Life events have raised over 3 billion dollars to date http://www.volunteermatch.org/search/org92520.jsp. The first team to raise over one million dollars is the Rosebud Miners http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/rosebudminers, and the largest per capita fundraiser for a college or university is Loyola College in Maryland http://www.loyola.edu/newsroom/news/09/0204_relay.html. The largest virtual fundraising event is Relay For Life of Second Life, which has raised almost $700,000 since 2004 http://www.cancer.org/docroot/par/content/PAR_1_Relay_For_Life.asp?from=fast.
Buffalo Loves Mountain Dew
Mountain Dew at a Glance
Mountain Dew, stylized as Mtn Dew, is a soft drink manufactured and distributed by PepsiCo. Although its formula was invented in Knoxville, Tennessee, it was first marketed in Knoxville and Johnson City, TN through the 1940s. Then by Barney and Ally Hartman, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and finally across the United States by 1964. Mountain Dew is also owned by JoudCo company in Syria.
As of 2007, behind only Coca-Cola Classic, Pepsi-Cola, and Diet Coke, Mountain Dew was the 4th best selling carbonated soft drink in the United States. Mountain Dew's Diet version ranked 9th in sales.
On October 15, 2008, Mountain Dew's official logo was redesigned to "Mtn Dew", from a PepsiCo rebranding of core products. In which, Mountain Dew also re-launched in the UK. Mountain Dew was originally released in the UK in 1996, then removed in 1998 due to low sales.
One of the alternate flavors of Mountain Dew, "LiveWire", continues to use the original designs. In November 2009, "Voltage" and "Code Red" received the redesign. "Ultra Violet" and "Game Fuel"(2009) both use the current design.

Stars at a Glance

A star is a massive, luminous ball of plasma that is held together by gravity. The nearest star to Earth is the Sun, which is the source of most of the energy on Earth. Other stars are visible in the night sky, when they are not outshone by the Sun. Historically, the most prominent stars on the celestial sphere were grouped together into constellations, and the brightest stars gained proper names. Extensive catalogues of stars have been assembled by astronomers, which provide standardized star designations.
For most of its life, a star shines due to thermonuclear fusion in its core releasing energy that traverses the star's interior and then radiates into outer space. Almost all elements heavier than hydrogen and helium were created by fusion processes in stars. Astronomers can determine the mass, age, chemical composition and many other properties of a star by observing its spectrum, luminosity and motion through space. The total mass of a star is the principal determinant in its evolution and eventual fate. Other characteristics of a star are determined by its evolutionary history, including the diameter, rotation, movement and temperature. A plot of the temperature of many stars against their luminosities, known as a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram (H?R diagram), allows the age and evolutionary state of a star to be determined.
A star begins as a collapsing cloud of material composed primarily of hydrogen, along with helium and trace amounts of heavier elements. Once the stellar core is sufficiently dense, some of the hydrogen is steadily converted into helium through the process of nuclear fusion. The remainder of the star's interior carries energy away from the core through a combination of radiative and convective processes. The star's internal pressure prevents it from collapsing further under its own gravity. Once the hydrogen fuel at the core is exhausted, those stars having at least 0.4 times the mass of the Sun expand to become a red giant, in some cases fusing heavier elements at the core or in shells around the core. The star then evolves into a degenerate form, recycling a portion of the matter into the interstellar environment, where it will form a new generation of stars with a higher proportion of heavy elements.
Binary and multi-star systems consist of two or more stars that are gravitationally bound, and generally move around each other in stable orbits. When two such stars have a relatively close orbit, their gravitational interaction can have a significant impact on their evolution. Stars can form part of a much larger gravitationally bound structure, such as a cluster or a galaxy.

Chai at a Glance
Masala chai (Hindi ????? ???: mas?l? c?y, "spiced tea") is a beverage from the Indian subcontinent made by brewing tea with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices and herbs.http://www.veetea.com/site/articles/Masala-Chai/ By itself, chai is merely the generic word for tea in Hindi and many other languages around the world, but for many English speakers outside those regions, particularly in the Western hemisphere, "chai" automatically implies "masala chai". Conversely however "chai" or "cha" is also British slang, referring to tea.

Buffalo at a Glance
The American Bison (Bison bison) is a North American species of bison, also commonly known as the American Buffalo. "Buffalo" is somewhat of a misnomer for this animal, as it is only distantly related to either of the two "true buffaloes", the Asian Water Buffalo and the African Buffalo. However, "bison" is a Greek word meaning ox-like animal, while "buffalo" originated with the French fur trappers who called these massive beasts boeufs, meaning ox or bullock - so both names, "bison" and "buffalo," have a similar meaning. In reference to this animal, the term "buffalo," which dates to 1635, has a much longer history than the term "bison," which was first recorded in 1774.The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition The American Bison is more closely related to the Wisent or European Bison.
These bison once inhabited the grasslands of North America in massive herds; their range roughly formed a triangle between the Great Bear Lake in Canada's far northwest, south to the Mexican states of Durango and Nuevo León, and east along the western boundary of the Appalachian Mountains.http://www.discoverlife.org/nh/tx/Vertebrata/Mammalia/Bovidae/Bos/bison/images/Bison_bison_map.320.jpg.html The two subspecies include the Plains Bison (Bison bison bison), smaller in size and with a more rounded hump, and the Wood Bison (Bison bison athabascae), which is the larger of the two and with a taller, square hump. Wood Bison is one of the largest species of cattle in the world, surpassed only by the Asian gaur and Wild Asian Water Buffalo. It is the largest extant land animal in North America.
Gazelles at a Glance
A gazelle ( ) is any of many antelope species currently or formerly in the genus Gazella. Six species are included in two genera (Eudorcas and Nanger) which were formerly considered subgenera. The genus Procapra has also been considered a subgenus of Gazella, and its members are also referred to as gazelles; however they are not dealt with in this article.
Gazelles are known as swift animals - some are able to maintain speeds as high as for extended periods of time. The Twisted Mind Emporium: Weird Science: Fast Animals Gazelles are mostly found in the deserts, grasslands and savannas of Africa, but they are also found in southwest and central Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent. They tend to live in herds and will eat less coarse, easily digestible plants and leaves.
The gazelle species are classified in the Gazella, Eudorcas and Nager. The taxonomy of these genera is a confused one, and the classification of species and subspecies has been an unsettled issue. Currently, the genus Gazella is widely considered to contain about 13 species. Four further species are extinct - the Red Gazelle, the Arabian Gazelle, the Queen of Sheba's Gazelle and the Saudi Gazelle. Most surviving gazelle species are considered threatened to varying degrees.
One widely familiar gazelle is the African species Thomson's Gazelle (Eudorcas thomsoni), which is around in height at the shoulder and is coloured brown and white with a distinguishing black stripe (as in the picture on the right). The males have long, often curved, horns. Like many other prey species, Tommies (as they are familiarly called) exhibit a distinctive behaviour of stotting (running slowly and jumping high before fleeing) when they are threatened by predators such as lions or cheetahs. This is a primary piece of evidence for the handicap principle advanced by Amotz Zahavi in the study of animal communication and behaviour.
