From the lens Dr. Oz -v- Dr. Mercola - Are They Quacks?.

  • Atreyusmommy May 17, 2012 @ 10:41 pm | delete
This is a very good lens. I 'm a huge fan of Dr. Oz and love watching his show everyday. I don't think that he is a quack at all. Thank you for sharing this lens!
  • faye_durham May 15, 2012 @ 10:40 am | delete
Great lens! Thanks for sharing this information. I appreciate the valuable information that both doctors offer about health and lifestyle choices.
  • raitoavi May 5, 2012 @ 5:49 am | delete
I love both, but not as much as I love this lens, thanks for sharing :)
  • happynutritionist May 10, 2012 @ 12:25 pm | delete
Wow, thanks, that is a BIG compliment:-)
  • miaponzo May 5, 2012 @ 3:01 am | delete
Thanks for doing this lens.. I like both of these doctors, but I prefer Dr Mercola because he's more on to the alternative choices. Blessed!
  • happynutritionist May 10, 2012 @ 12:25 pm | delete
It was a pleasure...fun...and thank you for the blessing:-)

I can understand why:-) Thanks for the visit.

This is my first time visiting squidoo but I really like the information that you provided here. Great "lens".....BTW, I like both Dr. Oz and Dr. Mercola and believe that they are both providing great information and health awareness to the community. I believe that the end-user has an individual responsibility to their homework. Peace & blessings!
  • happynutritionist May 4, 2012 @ 2:38 pm | delete
I am glad you found you way to Squidoo:-) It's a fun place to share about the things we love and more. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and hope you do come back and visit again.

Wow, what a great lens! I like them both. I have been following Dr. Mercola since he first started his website, and have been watching Dr. Oz for a year or so. They both have a lot of good information, but I don't completely trust either of them. They both have a vested interest in many of the products that they "push". Especially Dr. Mercola, who often has a sort of infomercial-type style. That said, they do have a lot of good information-just check and double check before you believe everything you hear from them.
  • elizabethknows Feb 16, 2012 @ 7:04 am | delete
I just starting watching Dr Oz, not sure if I would call him a quack... He seems to be sharing relevant health issues that a lot of people are dealing with.
  • macsquared Jan 16, 2012 @ 8:52 pm | delete
I haven't ever read anything that Dr. Oz has to say.
I do get Mercola's newsletter, but I ended up just sending it to my spam folder, I wasn't reading it. I think that he does have SOME valuable information, but I think he can be a bit of a crusader, and over-the-top at times, and makes me feel like EVERYTHING is going to kill me. I'd rather be limiting my exposure to my specific health issues or concerns I may have. I think he was bold to speak the truth on the so-called Swine Flu. I like a lot of what his pets page's vets have to say, and I like the attention spent on animal care, since our little furry friends are as sensitive, or more sensitive due to body size, as we are. But I don't read Mercola on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis.
I feel Dr. Weil can be added to the list of valuable information doctors, although he has gone to the extremely commercial side in the past several years, I feel his site is very "hands-off" for him and has content under his name only a significant portion of the time. Ghost writers are fine, just not what I like when I go to a site for a specific person's opinion and thoughts.

Great lens, good info for people who are not aware of these guys, or are aware and just need an outside opinion to help keep them grounded.
  • ben10ten Dec 28, 2011 @ 11:13 pm | delete
I think Dr. Weil should be on the same pedestal as these two, if not higher....
  • mannasugar Dec 23, 2011 @ 3:09 pm | delete
Dr. Oz and Dr. Mercola have great information
  • robertdorsey Dec 16, 2011 @ 12:47 am | delete
We watch Dr Oz when ever we can. I have not found him to miss the mark on any diagnosis that he shares that I know about. Dr Oz is thorough in all his statements even though sometimes his answers are short.

Dr. Mercola is one of the internet's most notorious spammers. I urge you not to give him any more free publicity. He needs not be rewarded for breaking the rules and spamming like there's no tomorrow.
  • happynutritionist Oct 11, 2011 @ 1:39 pm | delete
I am happy to be free to publish what I like, but appreciate you comment...it would have been a good one to put in the "duel" module above.
  • kiwisoutback Sep 22, 2011 @ 10:45 pm | delete
I don't know who Dr. Mercola is, so I guess I can't weigh in on the debate. I saw Dr. Oz once while I was in a waiting room for a doctor's appointment. The information didn't seem half bad, so I can't say that he's hurting people.
  • Pedro_Morales Aug 25, 2011 @ 7:48 am | delete
thanks for this great lens. I subscribe to Dr. Mercola's newsletter for about 2 years. His reports on vitamin D led me to take it and give it to my children frequently, and always as soon as someone starts coughing/sneezing, and it works wonderfully. I never heard of Dr. Oz but now I will check him out.

What a wonderful read! You have provided valuable information for others. You've been blessed!
  • MoneySavingEnthusiast Jun 2, 2011 @ 2:30 pm | delete
I love Dr. Oz. I follow what he says. He's become "my brand."
  • BalanceByDesign May 29, 2011 @ 9:47 am | delete
Enjoyed this lens. I'm a registered nurse but love natural remedies and preventive medicine. I like Dr. Oz and some of his advice. And I like Dr. Mercola and some of his advice. I especially like it that Dr. Mercola is a D.O.- just having that extra training, outside of naturopathic medicine is the best of both worlds.
  • AbsoluteJeanius May 6, 2011 @ 1:21 pm | delete
    What a comprehensive lens! KUDOS!!!!
  • fotolady49 Apr 18, 2011 @ 5:15 pm | delete
I love your lens...Thank you for sharing so much about both doctors.

Thanks, Carol...it wasn't toooo hard thanks to the wonderful tools here on Squidoo.

I'm glad Quackwatch exists, but like every site, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt! Nice lens!
  • happynutritionist Mar 9, 2011 @ 6:17 pm | delete
I agree, there's at least some measure of accountability...albeit sometimes biased. Thanks for your visit:-)

He is interesting and his show entertaining.

So... there's no room in the poll to side with one or the other? I'm sorry to say that I feel that the poll is herding me to give the kind of answers it wants me to give. You know, it's also possible that only ONE of them is the unreliable one...

Being "funny" is not what I use to gauge whether a person is being honest or not... although con-men often use humor to get us to lower our walls, and get on your good side.

This Dr. Oz still believes in the Lipid Hypothesis for Pete's sake... which is good news for the 30-billion-dollar a year industry that sells cholesterol-reducing drugs.

So far, I haven't seen anything about Dr. Mercola that looks like "quackery." Sure he also markets his products on the site, which bothers me just a little when they are placed with his articles (since I am only interested on the info); but I just ignore them or use them as base for further research. Besides, he's an entrepreneur, and pretty free to make a profit from his expertise and hard work, just like the rest of us, as long as he remains ethical about it.

I think Dr. Mercola is the safest bet here to get honest, non-big-pharma-slanted health-related info.

If you want info about a REAL, and utterly disgusting quack, just g o ogle for
William Avery Rockefeller (yeah, from THE Rockefeller family). Not "old" history... just history.
  • happynutritionist Jan 1, 2011 @ 2:30 pm | delete
I understand what you are saying...I maybe should add another poll...or you're free to express any thoughts on one side or the other...I do it all the time w/ a cavaet, but thanks so much for your thoughts and visit. I'll make a note in the poll that this is possible...thanks for the idea. I appreciate your taking the time to write all this.
  • eclecticeducation Dec 5, 2010 @ 7:56 pm | delete
Great idea for a lens! I am familiar with their name, but not with them so I am interested with what others are thinking. Blessed by a Squid Angel.
  • happynutritionist Dec 6, 2010 @ 6:16 pm | delete
Thanks so much for the blessing:-)
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Nov 22, 2010 @ 12:37 pm | delete
I have a friend who went to medical school at the University of Texas in Austin. She said that the first day of class they had a big meeting and the dean said, "Half of what we teach you will be wrong, we just don't know which half"

If all doctors were that honest we would all be better off

BTW, I would be interested in what you think of my lens "Save Your Life or the Life of a Loved One"
  • happynutritionist Jan 24, 2011 @ 9:19 am | delete
Margo, that doesn't sound like something I'd like to hear my first day in class:-) I hope it was a joke. Though it is a good reminder that doctors are not gods, we often wish they had more power to heal us than they really do.
  • Mujjen Oct 18, 2010 @ 1:51 am | delete
I have only seen Dr,Oz on Oprah. WHat I like about him, apart from his knowledge, is that he is funny! Many people need a little nudge to take care of their health, and his attitude can provide that!
  • happynutritionist Jan 24, 2011 @ 9:20 am | delete
He does have a nice way about him with people, and keeps you engaged with his visuals.
  • mcochs Oct 6, 2010 @ 7:00 pm | delete
    Enjoyed stopping by!
  • tandemonimom Sep 25, 2010 @ 5:45 pm | delete
On the Quackwatch poll, I wish there had been a "sometimes" choice. Sometimes they provide a valuable insight; but just as often they have a knee-jerk negative reaction to something just because it is outside the mainstream of allopathic medical practice.
  • happynutritionist Jan 24, 2011 @ 9:21 am | delete
I am going to go add a "sometimes" right now...thank you.
  • hlkljgk Jul 14, 2010 @ 8:25 pm | delete
wonderful subject. what heather said. :)
  • Heather426 Jul 2, 2010 @ 8:59 pm | delete
Great debate! I like them both, but prefer to avoid pharmaceuticals as much as possible. So I lean toward Dr. Mercola. I go to Osteopaths instead of M.D.'s for health treatments.
