Draco and Ginny Fanfiction (Harry Potter Series)

Ranked #3,884 in Arts & Design, #58,501 overall

A large number of people who have read the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling have become fascinated by the thought of Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley becoming involved romantically.  I am one of them (see why below) and I decided to start this lens to have a place to put a special list of stories featuring Draco and Ginny.  In these stories, Ginny and Draco are forced together by some outside circumstances, and have to learn to get along and appreciate each other. You can find this list with links to the stories below.

I also have a few links to other special D/G (that's shorthand for Draco and Ginny) stories and a few essays about this pairing.

I hope that whether you are a longtime D/G fan or you're wondering why anyone would think they would make a good couple, that you'll find something of value on this lens.

How I Became a D/G Fan

During the three years between the fourth and fifth Harry Potter books, many fans turned to writing and reading fanfiction to satisfy their appetite for more Harry. I was one of them. I started by reading romantic stories about Ron and Hermione, then moved on to Harry and Ginny stories.

I read and really enjoyed several stories by an author whose penname is Arabella. Looking through her list of writing online, I found "The More is My Unrest," which she co-wrote with Jedi Boadicea. In this story, Draco Malfoy observes Ginny Weasley's devotion to Harry, and is both disgusted by it and somewhat jealous.

Now, Arabella had prided herself on writing fanfiction that was true to Rowling's original work. She did NOT think that Draco and Ginny would actually work as a couple. However, after writing "The More is My Unrest," she and Jedi Boadicea had the following exchange (edited for length):

>JediB: I swear, by the end of this, I'm almost rooting for Draco.

>Arabe1la: I root for him secretly.

>JediB: Isn't it embarrassing? So do I.

After some hemming and hawing they decided to "see what would happen" if Draco had asked Ginny to the dance at the end of their story, instead of convincing himself that he didn't want her. From this came the long and excellent story "Rising from the Ashes."

These two stories were my introduction to Draco/Ginny, and a very fine introduction it was. Something about this pair struck a chord in me, and now I prefer to read D/G fanfiction above all other Harry Potter pairings (even though I know it doesn't fit with the real Harry Potter books.)

I find something fascinating in the conflict and harmony that arise when Draco and Ginny are written as two strong personalities, which I believe they are in Rowling's work. It's dramatic and emotional and satisfying to read a well-written and believable D/G story.

Thoughts on Draco & Ginny

From other raving fans

Why Draco/Ginny? by Mynuet
Fanfiction writer and part owner of www.DracoandGinny.com, Mynuet (real name Sharlene) wrote an essay to answer the question, "Can anyone tell me, using canon information, why this is a match made in heaven?" Mynuet set out to do just that, using information in the Harry Potter books 1-5 (number six hadn't been published). It's very well-thought-out, I think.
