Dragon Age walkthrough hint strategy tips & more

Ranked #597 in Games, #19,331 overall

Hi! This page has information for both Bioware's recently released Dragon Age 2 game, and the older Origins/Awakening parts of the series.

For starters, I'll link you to the official game guide - more specific stuff is farther down this page. This was produced by Prima, who also did one for Origins (linked below). It's available both in print and as a digital copy. The digicopy is on Steam, which also has DA and is probably the biggest & most trusted service for Digital Downloads.

This digital copy isn't very cheap though, and you'll probably find the physical copy much cheaper at any local store or even amazon/ebay. Here's the Steam link (Currently $25 usd!)

Please read the reviews if you're thinking of purchasing this guide (they're at the amazon link below) - there are some unhappy customers.

Dragon Age II: The Complete Official Guide

Amazon Price: $11.99 (as of 02/14/2012)Buy Now

The same official strategy walkthrough to the game on Amazon, typically much cheaper. This page will show the latest updated price. Unfortunately, you'll also have to wait for it to appear in the mail... some of the links further down this page will help you in the game if you need some *right now*.

A well made online guide to Dragon Age2. I'll link to a few of the bigger sections. The table of contents is on the right hand side of the page and very easy to miss.

Gamefront's Walkthrough

Like gamespot, this videogame-dedicated site produced a large, free, strategy guide to Dragon Age 2. Most of the information is in simple steps, like "go here, do that" with accompanying videos. Unfortunately, it's all presented on one page. Very easy to accidently spoil yourself here.

It should answer any questions you should have though if it wasn't covered in gamespot's:

Cheats

Courtesy of GameFaqs. You'll need some technical know-how, but this describes how to turn on the Developer Console commands on the PC and what you can do with them. See the page here.

Using a Playstation 3? Cheats and trophies can be found here.
Using a Xbox 360? Try this page instead for tricks & achievements. Some of the ones listed are "Infinite Armor Points", "Infinite XP and Gold Glitch", and a way to dupe items and money.

Gotta love those sites that describe themselves with their names. It's a walkthrough for Dragon Age Origins, but not quite done yet. Lots of information is there if you're looking for something specific & well worth visiting.

There are a few other versions.
Check the related items on amazon to see them all.

I haven't read this one, but the prima Dragon Age Origins guides are highly rated by people who have. You'll need to wait for it to ship if you grab the walkthrough guide from Amazon. Try calling up your local gamestores, like a Gamestop or even Babbages, and ask them if they have any on the shelves.

Some libraries also carry them. I'm not kidding! Mine does, and we're a pretty small town. Worth a try if you don't mind only borrowing it for awhile.

I played as Mage / Arcane Warrior / Blood Mage. It got almost too easy towards the end. The Arcane Warrior passive ability (doesn't have to be activated) allows you to equip armor using your Magic attribute instead of Strength (Wade's Superior Dragonskin set, here I come!).

Then I pumped Constitution and i used Blood magic to cast all my spells (using my large HP pool) and Willpower only to maintain those sustained abilities (arcane shield, spell might, etc).

With my armor, sustained protection and massive HP pool I had great survivability, not to mention access to lots of powerful spells. When blood magic is active potions and healing spells don't really work on you, but you can just leech HP from your party members using your blood magic skill, and then heal your party members using normal means.

Like any other class based RPG, in order to effectively conquer your opponents one must learn to use all the abilities of each character. Each class has a specific role in a fight, typically ranged characters have the responsibility of simply dealing damage, warriors have the responsibility of taking damage so that other characters can fight more effectively, and Mages have the responsibility of either dealing damage or healing other players in the party. Learning to use these roles in a fight can make you a dangerous person to play.
One common strategy is to have your warrior (in the case of Dragon Age: Alistair or Sten) use a skill that will draw all the attention to him (Taunt is a good one). This keeps most enemies attacking him, while your other players focus on killing the enemies one-by-one from a distance.

For the archdemon, remember to take 1 ranged, 1 healer (mage) and maybe 2 melee's... and make sure you have pots before going through the bridge, cause you can't go back :(

I can beat the Archdemon with any Group no matter the healers or not. If money is conserved you can buy all special weapons and you can buy all the herbs you need from Dalish Camp

when you make a character, be sure to focus on one or two sets of skills otherwise you will be weak and it will be very tough. set your parties strategies as well, that is very important indeed

If you want some hints on what to do with this lens check out the following lens:-

    http://www.squidoo.com/red-dead-redemption-resources

One thing you need though, while its riding high in the rankings and getting traffic you need products on it, try adding the Prima Guide for Dragon Age from Amazon and the different versions of the game ie XBox360, PS3 and PC.

Your intro module also needs a better picture, the one you have got is bland and doesn't do you any favours.

Hope this helps and feel free to delete this comment once read.

You take the ore to the smith at Warden's Peak. He's on the right when you enter. He should have someone beside him (a cousin or sort). You can either have a two-handed weapon or one-handed. Both pretty good but it really matters what you need it for...

I like Dragon Age a lot. But I didn't like how your character doesn't talk. Mass effect is better in that regards, but that is a different game.
But the characters are generally interesting. Who would you vote for the most interesting character?

I like Dragon Age quite a lot but wish that it could be played as if in the game, as if seeing through your character's eyes, as in Oblivion. I don't like moving my character around and seeing her all the time. I do, however, like the storyline and the characters such as Alistair.

I beat the Arch Demon (finally) with Alistar, Sten, Wynne, a PC Flame/Electric/Spirit Mage and 20 Healing Poltices My basic strategy was:

[Spoiler ahead if you don't want to read them!]

    1) Beat on the ArchDemon (using just those 4 chars) until its 1/2 strength and it calls for reinforcements. Wynne used the closest balista and gave out heals and buffs (and 1 rez). I was completely out of Health Poltices by this point.

    2) Call for your own reinforcements. I used 50 RedCliffe soldiers because I needed melee against the ArchDemon Reinforcments and my Dwarfs had already been beat up in an earlier fight.

    3) Rest and heal as much as possible while Redcliffe neutralizes the first wave of dragon reinforcements.

    4) Use your main party and what's left of Redcliffe to:
    a) neutralize the second wave of dragon reinforcements
    b) melee the dragon to ~10% health. I was out of Redcliffe soldiers at this point.

    5) Use up my last spirit balms or spirit shards to help neutralize dragon vortices

    6) Ding it to 2% health. I lost Alistar and Sten twice by then (Wynne rez both with 1 shot.
    Put them close to eachother!).

    7) My mage was near 20 hits by then, so he put himself into a Force Field while:

o the dragon kicked, swatted, bashed, breathed on, chewed, and smashed the Force Field.
o Wynne picked off the grunts the dragon uses as it's last reinforcments, one by one.

My mage had done most of the damage so the dragon ignored Wynne.

    8) Zap out of the Force Field, get healed by Wynne and we both used Archane bolts to finish things off.

This was an extremely close fight (my PC mage died, Wynne was near death and 30 mana when the ArchDemon finally keeled over). Very exciting.

In retrospect, I'd do the following things differently:

    o Get more health poltices.
o Use more spirit balms then I did. I used some, but should have bought and used more.
o Use Morrigan instead of Sten, because she does lots more damage, and/or
o Pick more cold spells for my main PC mage. The ArchDemon, as I discovered
to my dismay, just shrugged off most of my best Flame/Electric spells. Gar!

I like Lilliana, but didn't really need her on any of the fights before the ArchDemon. At a guess, you can win the game with nearly any combination of chars and reinformcements (assuming you play them well!) but some are going to be easier to work with than others and I definitely recommend Wynne.

    Good luck and have fun!
