Dragon's Egg at Construction Company, September 12-13, 2009
This event is organized and produced by Marya Ursin, Artistic Director, Mystic Paper Beasts/Dragon's Egg, with the help and support of the dancers and actors of the Dragon's Egg, the membership and Board of the Mystic Paper Beasts, the openness and welcome of Carolyn Lord and the Construction Company, the love and support of family and friends, the joy of her daughter Ana, the blessing of work she loves, and, of course, the presence and ingenuity and love of her Dan Potter.
The Egg is the unique rehearsal space for the Mystic Paper Beasts, a mask theatre troupe led by Marya Ursin and Dan Potter (www.mysticpaperbeasts.org).
The Egg is a freestanding hexagonal building at the end of a tree-encircled field in the countryside of Ledyard, CT. The studio space measures 2,200 square feet, with a heated floating (sprung) floor, a minimal kitchen and a loft for sleeping, and a hexagonal catwalk in its high, tent-roofed ceiling. It is home to regular classes and workshops in yoga, dance, creative and healing arts. In this vaulting, inspiring space, The Mystic Paper Beasts have supported the development of over forty artists' work from New York and New England, through workshops and rehearsal residencies.
To celebrate and showcase the artists and the Dragon's Egg, 19 of these artists have gathered here for your pleasure. Most work performed in these two concerts was created or rehearsed in part at the Dragon's Egg, and some pieces are drawn from a yearly summer solstice event at the Dragon's Egg honoring literary narrative.
The Mystic Paper Beasts are currently in20the midst of a fundraising program to have the Dragon's Egg become solar. We have commenced! The goal is another $15,000. Please consider contributing $5000, or a panel ($500), or forming a consortium to contribute a panel. We welcome your support in this.

A Call to Spiritual Maturity with Dr. Paul Dunion
Saturday November 14, 2009
Dr. Paul Dunion invites you to a one-day workshop for individuals:A Call to Spiritual Maturity
Saturday November 14, 9 AM - 4 PM
at the Dragon's Egg, Mystic CT
When there is a cultural distortion of values,
it can be very difficult to know what to trust and believe.
Such trauma easily leaves us confused and/or indifferent
about a life characterized by authentic spiritual devotion.
This workshop clarifies some of the ancient meanings of the word 'spirit'
and bridges the gap between spirituality and psychology.
We will focus on three specific expressions of immature spirituality
and what it means to respond to a larger spiritual call. The workshop explores four spiritual crises,
and how we can allow these challenges to deepen and expand our spiritual vision.
Facilitator: Dr. Paul Dunion
Fee:$80 per person if you register by October 31; please send a $40 deposit to reserve your space.
After October 31, registration is $90 per person.

From Publishers Weekly
In her first venture as both writer and illustrator, Potter (Gabriella's Song) proves as adept with words as she is with images, spinning a lyrical account of the year she toured Italy with her family's theater troupe. After packing their steamer trunks with "puppets, masks, and musical instruments," their grandparents see them off at the airport. Then seven-year-old Giselle, her little sister, Chloe, and their parents are off in an old wooden carnival truck across "the country that's shaped like a boot."
Mystic Paper Beasts
Performing all over the world since 1976
The Mystic Paper Beasts are the in-house performing arts troupe at The Dragon's Egg.The tales told by the Mystic Paper Beasts Theatre Company are original and re-told dreams and myths of transformation expressed through humor and dance while wearing witty and whimsical masks. These performances have delighted audiences of all ages and many nationalities.
Their repertoire explores the mysterious realm of transformation. The beasts invite viewers to join them on their magical journeys.
Since 1976, The Beasts have performed variously as a family circus, a duet, a solo with audience participation, a quartet, a quintet, a large group of roving friends.

Labyrinth Walks
Labyrinth Walk With Bernadette GoldenThe Labyrinth walk is held four times a year at the Solstices and Equinoxes. It is accompanied by quiet, soul-inspiring live music. It is an inner and outer journey through a Labyrinth floorcloth that is patterned after the one in Chartres Cathedral in France.
These walks are held at the beautiful Dragon's Egg Studio in Ledyard, CT. Walks with this labyrinth are also held at other times and locations. Check the calendar for information.
A labyrinth is a sacred circular design found in various forms throughout human history. Circular patterns have been used as an aid to prayer and meditation in many cultures. The labyrinth combines this with the tradition of meditative walking. It is a tool for introspection and spiritual transformation.
As a ritual of spiritual pilgrimage, during the 12-14th centuries, visitors to the great cathedrals of Europe would walk the labyrinth designs built into their floors. Unlike a maze, which has dead ends and false turns, a labyrinth is one continuous path that will eventually lead you to the center of the circle. This profound archetype is a powerful symbol of the life journey we all make, full of unexpected twists and sudden changes in direction.
The metaphors are rich and each person's experience in walking the labyrinth will be unique.
The labyrinth we will walk is a 30x30 foot reproduction of one built into the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France in 1194 A.D. Its builders were the Benedictine monks, adherents of St. Augustine's Threefold Path to Enlightenment.
There is no need to run outside
For better seeing,
Nor to peer from a window. Rather abide
At the center of your being...
Search your heart and see...
The way to do is to be.
