Pirates (Drama Lesson Plan for ages 11-12)
Physical Theatre for 6th Grade (US) or Year 7 (UK)
Objective
Students to begin to use their bodies in physical theatre.
Starter/Introduction:
Class Activity: Shapes
Move around the space individually as if:
- the floor is very hot
- the floor is very cold
- the floor is like quicksand
- they are being chased by crocodiles
After each the teacher calls out a number and students use their bodies to make that shape/ object.
1. tree
2. treasure chest
3. a ship
4. a cave entrance
Development:
Group work (groups of 4)
Devise a scene using the physical objects already made to tell a pirates adventure on the island that they are stranded on.
Perform 1 or 2 and evaluate.
Plenary
Count down into a tableau and then thought tap all of the pirates about their situation.
Homework
Students to write their thought tap and say why they said this.

Q & A to test understanding of Drama Vocabulary and what skills are
Students Self-evaluation
