Learn to Control Your Dreams
To create any possibility, begin by simply imagining the world as different from what it is. Different how? In any way imaginable. So often we limit ourselves by simply not thinking big enough. We should let our imagination run wild and exercise our creativity. Someone once said, Whatever you can conceive, you can achieve - and that person was right. All we need is the courage to back up our imagination.
One way to live in abundance is to learn about Lucid Dreaming. This is when you are aware that you are dreaming, and if you wish you can "re-write" or "re-dream" the outcome.

Awaken
That's Buddhism in a nutshell. We live our lives, blissfully unaware that we're dreaming (ignorance, delusion, craving, etc). We could spend our entire life like this and never be aware of it, even upon death. However, once you've realized you're dreaming, you can't follow the dream the same way as before. Now you know it for what it is, and you know that you can now wake yourself up. That's the Awakened Mind, that's Enlightenment. The term Buddha just means "Awakened One" anyways. Once, someone asked the Buddha "what are you?" His reply was "I am awakened."
Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams (MILD)
The verbalization that I use to organize my intended effort is: "Next time I'm dreaming, I want to remember to recognize I'm dreaming." The "when" and "what" of the intended action must be clearly specified.
I generate this intention either immediately after awakening from an earlier REM period, or following a period of full wakefulness, as detailed below. An important point is that in order to produce the desired effect, it is necessary to do more than just mindlessly recite the phrase. You must really INTEND to have a lucid dream. Here is the recommended procedure spelled out step by step.
1. During the early morning, when you awaken spontaneously from a dream, go over the dream several times until you have memorized it.
2. Then, while lying in bed and returning to sleep, say to yourself, Next time I'm dreaming, I want to remember to recognize I'm dreaming."
3. Visualize yourself as being back in the dream just rehearsed; only this time see yourself realizing that you are, in fact, dreaming.
4. Repeat steps two and three until you feel your intention is clearly fixed or you fall asleep.
If all goes well, in a short time you will find yourself lucid in another dream (which need not resemble the one you have just rehearsed.

The book discusses stages of death which are then repeated in reverse order in the bardo state during the transition towards rebirth. It says that sleep is in essence a rehearsal for this process of dying, and I was struck by the similarities between sleep and death. It also states two other conditions in which those same steps take place: the meditative state and orgasm.

Very nice lens. It's amazing how much of human wisdom comes from altered states of consciousness if we are "tuned-in." There is truly a lot to be said about "finding oneself." Nice job 5 stars, a fav and a lensroll! Posted October 07, 2008 |
