My First Guitar

My first guitar was a trade for a football. My brother was given a guitar and I had been given a football. We came in from school that day and I saw that he was interested in the football.




I mistakenly thought that left handed folks couldn't play the guitar, and I convinced him to see my way of thinking. Then I talked him out of the guitar in exchange for the football.

I had been writing lyrics (poems and journals), for several years and always thought that if I could put them to music it would be awesome. And, I was right. The joy of hearing my poetry put to a melody was amazing!

As I am recalling those first few months of learning to play, to share with you here, it seems that the greatest reward as a result of this new found expression was finding my voice. My poetry was about living, loving, learning, heartbreak, and healing. It seemed to come alive when put to music. I was better able to listen to my heart's message, and the message was for me.

    I've always wanted to play the guitar. I took lessons for about a month and learned one song, but never took it any further than that.

    I love this lens! I too learned to play guitar when I was young. Much later I learned the joy of creating my own songs. I am happy to be the first one to rate your lens. 5***** - more people should know the joy of playing guitar, and this lens is very encouraging. I'm lensrolling it to my lens about vintage Beatles albums.
