Driftwood Horses by Heather Jansch

02/07/09

What I find particularly special about this set of driftwood horses, is that they seem alive .... you can feel the motion, the spirit and the joy. What a pure delight! Breathtaking.

This snapshot reminds me of a large oil painting, I almost bought, and regret to this day, I didn't. Surprisingly the picture was mostly grays and whites, with 5 horses charging across an open stream.

Here Heather has created a beautiful driftwood deer.

The strongest one, water, that cuts deep ridges into rocks without using a sharp knife or metal, washes over driftwood, caressing it, molding it, to ageless beauty.

Heather Jansch creates life-size driftwood art sculpture or oak statues. She lives and works in the beautiful Westcounty of England. Visitors to her gallery and studio are welcome throughout the year by appointment.

Signed limited edition prints of most images on her site are available.

Left is the 'Grand Slam' Driftwood Swordfish by Covered Bridge Creations and it is indeed a grand slam! Beside it is a Driftwood Eagle's Nest with, yes, Driftwood Eagles and below I believe those are loons.

Driftwood Artist Tommy Winn turned his hand at driftwood carving about ten years ago and now is a full time dirftwood artist. He makes stunning pieces in driftwood turtles, fish, crabs, mermaids, swordfish, dolphins, and that's just the aquatic driftwood art. Then there's the exceptional driftwood birds art - blue herons, pelicans, and the magnificent bald eagles and their Eagle's nests!

Tommy works with various driftwoods such as Cedar, Willow, Beech, Poplar, Walnut, and Mulberry.

Visit the uber talented Tommy Winn at Covered Bridge Creations and yes he does have some beautiful pieces for sale!

Driftwood Artist Jim Wright - Carving Driftwood

15/05/09

While others wandering a beach might see a mass of sun-bleached, jumbled driftwood, Jim Wright sees a regal haunting face.

Jim Wright's talent lies in his vision to see the face in a piece of driftwood even before he begins carving. He also carves logs in-the-round, or 3 dimensional. Jim's passion is relief driftwood carving in found driftwood. No two pieces are the same, so each of his pieces are a one-of-a-kind driftwood art masterpiece.

Driftwood Art Hut

01/05/09

This unique driftwood hut was assembled with driftwood collected along the shores of Lac Leman, aka Lake Geneva, Switzerland. The driftwood art hut is titled "le village des flottins", translation: Floating Village.

Lulled by the surf and wind, low and high,
Petrified Driftwood from distant times beckons me,
Reminiscent of sunny daydreams of days gone by,
Wishing to be caressed and honed lovingly.

Throw a little canvas on top with some draping over the sides and you've got one cool driftwood arbor!

Stone and Driftwood Art

Steve Bryant started sculpting with Driftwood making Birdhouses, Feeders, driftwood Benches, and Sculptures in 2001. Steve brought into the mix Metal Art and Blacksmithing in 2005 combining the earth elements of driftwood and metal and stone to provide truly unique driftwood art for sale.

They create driftwood garden furniture and driftwood yard art using mostly recycled materials - Driftwood, Glass, Metal and Stone to form truly unique pieces of art sculpture for your home. Click on pic below to visit their site.

Designs Adrift - Driftwood Artist

16/04/09

This new furniture collection from self-taught Maine artist, Michael Fleming, combines the silvery smooth, yet raw material - driftwood - with metals, glass, and fine textiles. This found wood has been naturally finished over time and it's texture unmatched. This incredible line of functional art compliments a variety of interiors and outdoor living areas.

Each piece is charged with the inherent strength and grace of nature - formed naturally, aged beautifully, collected respectfully.

Michael finds his inspiration from the constant changing environment surrounding his small studio on the coast of Maine.

The Designs Adrift collection includes furniture built with hand crafted mortise and tenon joinery complete with antique linen; floor and table lamps finished with hand made linen and cotton shades; sculptures formed through the tides and time complimented by forged steel bases; art assemblages kinetic yet calming...

Michael creates one of a kind works custom to clients specifications - by hand, one piece at a time, from found indigenous woods. This work is not mass produced. Some pieces may be replicated but never the same, others will forever be the only one.

Driftwood Artist Tina from a Driftwood Dream, exquisite art with driftwood

04/05/09

Weathered and windswept driftwood reminds one of walks along a breezy shoreline, the wind swirling below an azure sky, being one with nature and ages gone by. Tina's driftwood is uniquely whimsical.

Inspired by the natural beauty of driftwood, Tina gathers from the beaches and lake shores of the Northwest. She combines the driftwood with resin clay to create these wonderful art works that are sure to appeal to driftwood collectors. Making driftwood art is a passion of Tina's.

The clay is a two part epoxy that is adhered and blended into the surface of the wood to form faces and details.

Most of the wood is left in its natural state, allowing the shape and texture of the driftwood to guide the creation of each sculpture. Some pieces are exquisitely painted and others are left unpainted, or a combination of both.

The driftwood art for sale of Tina from A Driftwood Dream covers many genres... Fantasy, Folk Art, Mythology, Americana, Native American and Seasonal subjects such as Old World Santas. (I had to remove the link to A Driftwood Dream because it appears they have gone off-line.)

"I purchased this for my husband for christmas. It was supposed to help him with another purchase. We were very happy with the projects the book had to offer and instructions are very clear. I was hoping to see a few more "log" type applications for furniture making and less "twig" type. Overall it is a very good book and gets your imagine kicked in." ~ Logman, Davenport, IA

Large Driftwood Bench

Here's a beautiful Driftwood Bench created by an environmentalist. Functionality in drift wood art ... what a great comfy bench for the cottage!

"My creative medium changed to found art as a result of one such 'accident' in 1997. I was collecting driftwood, on a remote Victorian Coastline, with the intention of making furniture and stumbled upon vast amounts of plastic ocean debris. I was immediately affected by a whole new palette of colour and shape revealing itself to me; I had never seen such hues and forms before.

Since then, I have scoured Australian beaches for found objects which I bring back to my studio to sift, sort, and colour-code for my assemblages, sculptures and installations. As I work with them in my studio I become even more fascinated by the way they have been modified and weathered by the ocean and nature's elements. My challenge as an artist is to take these found objects, which might on first meeting have no apparent dialogue, and to work with them until they speak and tell their story." Driftwood artist John Dahlsen.

"Al Rollings discovered Lake Michigan driftwood as a natural medium for his creations. Al allows the driftwood to impressionistically suggest the body of the work as it morphs to a realistic head. His work is an impressionistic feast for the imagination.

Al's original interest in species of Michigan to the Florida flyway has expanded to include wild birds carved out of driftwood and driftwood fish from across North America." Source
