Drills for Girls Softball Practice: Focus on Sliding
You must split the team up in fourths. Put ¼ of them behind first base, ¼ behind second base, ¼ behind third base, and ¼ behind home plate. You must demonstrate to the team how the slide should look. You must accentuate that they should keep their arms over their heads and not use them to break their fall. This is where the eggs will play a significant role in the drill. It will be even more effective if you demonstrate with the eggs too!
Then you will give two eggs (one for each hand) to the first person that is in line at home. At the blow of your whistle, she will run toward first base. She should use the methods that she previously learned for sliding but also integrate hand/arm placement. The eggs should remain in the runner's hands, above their head and intact during and after the slide. This sounds a little bit unreasonable but you will be surprised how careful the team will be when there is a potential egg-shower!
Drills for Girls Softball that are Fun and Effective
"Scrambled Eggs" is one of the most fun drills for girl's softball. Not to mention, you will be pleasantly surprised by how well this trains the team to run and slide. While they won't have eggs during the actual game, with enough practice, the form will become routine. "Scrambled Eggs" is a drill that the team can look forward to and work hard for!
