I Hate Frosting
I love cake but I spent my entire childhood not liking frosting. Upon being given a peice of cake I would scrape off the frosting so I could enjoy the cake. Everyone thought I was strange afterall who doesn't like frosting. As I got older mom stopped frosting my birthday cake and opted for sprinkled powdered sugar instead. This was good especially on spice cake but I've found something better, Drizzle Frosting. Drizzle frosting its not overpoweringly sweet or clings to your tongue like regular frosting, its not waxy nor needs refridgeration. I find it is the perfect compliment to cake. The cake shines in its own deliciousness and the drizzle adds just a bit of umph to make a fabulous cake into a fantabulous confection. Let me share my drizzle finds with you.
Cinnamon Bread with Drizzle
First Encounter
The first time I ran into drizzle frosting was when I was a kid. I didn't know or realize at the time that this would be the answer to my frosting delima.
My mother used to buy every once in a while a cinnamon pull-apart bread. It was so good. It came usually with 2 loafs in one package. It was to be warmed in the oven and then you would open a package of white stuff(this was the drizzle) that came with the loafs and squeeze the white stuff on the loaf and let it melt and run down the sides of the bread.
It was so yummy and as I remember very inexpensive. I've not seen it in the stores in a long time perhaps they don't make this bread anymore. I miss it.

Cake with Drizzle
- Cherry Coffee Cake
- A yummy cake using drizzle frosting. Personally I like a lighter drizzle with no butter but give this a try and see for yourself. I love cherry cake.
- Lemon Drizzle Cake
- This recipe comes from the UK. I've not tried it yet but it looks interesting. I'd have to do some converting...hmmm...how many grams in a cup? It is cooked in a loaf pan.
Drizzle Drizzle...yum
A Few Drizzles of My Own.
Tangerine Dream Drizzle
This was so lite and yummy.
The juice from 4-5 tangerines
3/4 cups of powdered sugar
Drizzle all over a sheet cake, spread with the back of a spoon for better coverage. This was great on a french vanilla boxed cake mix. I decorated with tangerine sections to make it pretty. You could add a drop of orange food coloring for color.
Clove Drizzle
This was fantastic on devil's food cake.
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon of clove
a sprinkling of cinnimon
stir in water til thin enough to drizzle.
I use this on cup cakes. I actually dip the tops of the cupcakes in the drizzle. Don't leave the cupcake in the drizzle too long or you will have one drippy mess. Hold cupcake upside down til all drizzle stops dripping off cupcake then turn right side up and place on platter. Wait a minute or two for the drizzle to start to set and lightly sprinkle with sprinkles. They look very classy when finished.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Drizzle
This was a big hit at my mom's birthday. It is actually 2 drizzles on one cake. I use a white or yellow cake for this.
Chocolate Drizzle
Melt 3 or 4 small blocks of dipping chocolate
pour and spread over cake and let to set.
Peanut Butter Drizzle
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup honey roast creamy peanut butter
stir in milk til liquid enough to drizzle
Drizzle over chocolate covered cake. I made a pattern going back and forth then side to side. You'll find you have more P.B. drizzle than you need for the cake. This makes a great topping for ice cream too.

Brownies with Drizzle
- Peppermint Brownies
- What's better than chocolate and mint. Here is a great minty brownie with peppermint drizzle.
Cookies with Drizzle
You can add drizzle frosting to any cookie. Some cookies are better with drizzle than others. Personally I like soft cookies with drizzle better than hard cookies with drizzle. Drizzle should be applied the same day as the cookies will be served as the drizzle will pick up the moisture from the air and become rather sticky.
- Pecan Praline Cookies
- I am not a big fan of nuts but my nutty family is. This is a great little recipe featuring a drizzle frosting.
