If one of the members of the household has been found to be addicted to drugs, there is also a tendency that he may become psychologically dependent on the other members of the family. For instance, parents usually have the tendency to cover up for their drug dependent son out of fear that he may be jailed, may be sent to drug rehabilitation centers, or may be judged by the society. This could even get worse when parents end up giving money to their son to fund his continuous use of illicit drugs.

Addiction to illicit drugs also has severe harmful effects on the baby of a pregnant woman. Illegal drugs can cause health complications to the baby's weight and immune system.
