Gentle With A Touch of Insanely Powerful
Druids are an oddball class of the game. They have the ability to shift forms to accomplish various feats as well as cast, heal, and fight. That's right, these guys can do just about it all. And what's more, they don't need a pet cause they are their own best friend.
A good druid can heal in a pinch or tank, or off-DPS or, or, well, you get the picture. This is a jack of all trades type of class.

Talent Spec: Balance
This Star Is For You!
Balance druids are casters. They can provide DPS cover and basically just sit back and cast nasty little direct damage spells all day.
Great for both groups and PvP, balance druids do lack a bit with solo grinding, but only just a bit.
Talent Spec: Feral Combat
Here, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty...
Feral spec is by far the most popular druid spec and the why is simple. Feral druids can act as surrogate tanks, pinch hit DPS, and they don't have to heal or cast very often, but when they do, it just means they can fight even longer.
Feral druids are great in groups, PvP, and solo grinding as well as having one of the most awesome animals dances in the game. Plus, they tend to get pretty cool gear just for this spec.
Talent Spec: Restoration
So You Uh, Heal?
Restoration druids can do big group heals and a few other special things, but to be honest, this is the weakest spec in the druid tree. While some people can pull this off great, not everyone is going to be able to work it as well.
The gist is that you can pinch heal in a group, not so great at PvP, and you will probably survive solo grinding. But beyond that, not too much work for resto druids all the time.
