Drum n Bass Music
The sound of Drum n Bass music evolved in the 90's out of a genre referred to as "Jungle" which combined broken beat rhythms and an ultra deep bassline. This bassline, also known as a "Reese Bass", when combined with the "Amen" Break drumbeat played at fast tempos creates a powerful form of electronic dance music.
The tempos for Drum n Bass music range from 160 to 180 beats per minute with the bassline generally played in half time. DnB is heavily influenced by Breakbeat music, HipHop music, Techno, and Ragga. It sounds in fact like an accelerated form of HipHop or Breaks. Many DnB producers choose dark, apocalyptic themes, creepy sci-fi sound effects, and ominous synth sounds as the canvas for their music.
This lens will focus on the talented artists, DJs, and producers that create Drum n Bass music, as well as the various sub-genres, scenes and styles of DnB and Jungle. This relatively new musical sound has rapidly grown in popularity and influence and although it is still an underground dance music style, it appears frequently in movies, commercials, and games in the mainstream media.
Welcome to the Jungle!
