DSLRs - Digital single-lens reflex camera

A digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera that uses an automatic mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens through the viewfinder eyepiece. Some DSLRs use a pentamirror instead of the traditional pentaprism which is composed mostly of plastic and is lighter and cheaper to produce.

Why should you buy a DSLR

1. Choice of interchangeable lenses and ability to attach additional accessories
2. Fast startup, image stabilization and fast action shots
3. Imperceptible shutter lag, faster autofocus systems, and faster frame rates
4. Continuous bursts of action shots
5. Image sensors of much larger size and often higher quality, offering lower noise, which is useful in low light, and greater dynamic range.
6. Offers ultimate in manual control
7. Optical viewfinders especially comfortable and efficient for action photography and in low-light conditions.
8. Depth of Field that puts everything from forground to background in focus through to nice blurry backgrounds. The larger focal length for the same field of view allows creative use of depth of field effects.

Though some users/photographers criticize it on the grounds of larger size/weight/cost/noise and lack of video mode etc. But we must not forget that there is nothing in this world which can't be criticized. In conclusion I must say that DSLR is the first choice of users/photographers with positive thinking.
