Mario Kart DS is the only DS game you need.
I've been using a Nintendo DS for nearly three years now, and for some reason I always end up just playing Mario Kart DS. I've been through countless other DS games, but I always come back to Mario Kart. What makes this game so special and entertaining? Let's find out!
The game, in a nutshell.
Mario Kart DS is a racing game. No, it's a racing and battle game! No, it's heaven!Many game review sites classify Mario Kart DS as a racing or driving game, but it's much more than that. Using items to take out your opponents is a central part of the game. If you just hit the gas pedal, ignore the items, and drive as best as you can, you will miss out on the joy of the game. Not to mention that you'll probably to terrible.
The game has several modes, the central mode being Grand Prix, which consists of a four separate races where you earn points based on performance. You can also play courses individually against opponents or the clock. Lastly, there are also two battle modes where you don't race, but rather try to take out the opponents.
Racing is pretty straight forward: get first place. However, to get first place, you need to acquire and use items to take out opponents and protect yourself from your opponents taking you out. It's that simple!

Race Levels
Too many options!
The game has several modes, the central mode being Grand Prix. There are a total of eight "cups," each with four race levels. That makes a total of 32 race levels. There are also four different skill levels of racing. So, your racing options are really much more than 32.The easiest mode, 50cc, is a great place to start. It gives you the opportunity to learn to play and get better without getting discouraged. For younger players, this level will keep the game fun for them.
However, when you reach the 150cc level, things are different. The cars are faster and the opponents are more cunning.

Ways to take out your opponents!
Mario Kart DS offers several ways to take out your opponents and win the race!- Green Shell: a standard shell that shoots in a single direction and bounces off walls.
- Red Shell: a seeking shell that follows the opponent you shoot it at.
- Spiny Shell: Takes off and tracks down the player in the lead position and takes him out!
- Triple Shells: come in green or red variety. They circle you adding a good layer of protection. You can shoot them off whenever you want!
- Banana Peel: drop it somewhere and watch an opponent skid out on it! There is also the triple banana peels that add a layer of protection behind you, and you can drop them where you like.
- Bomb: you can throw it or simply drop it behind you. When a kart gets close to it, it explodes. Or, it will automatically blow up after a few seconds if no one is near.
- Mushroom: this gives you a boost. But you can knock your opponent around if you hit him while boosting with the mushroom. It's even better in battle where you can steal an opponents balloon!
- Fake Item Box: very similar to the banana peel. Drop it near real item boxes and trick your opponents into hitting it!
- Blooper (Squid): this will spray ink on the windshield of the opponents ahead of you. It makes it hard to see, easy to crash into fake item boxes and banana peels, and slows them down.
- Boo (Ghost): this allows you to steal another player's item and then go invisible. You can't be hit while you're invisible.
- Star: invincibility! Take out as many opponents as possible and get a speed boost.
- Lightening: shrinks all the players ahead of you into mini-size. They go extra slow and you can knock them around by running into them.
- Bullet: turns you into a bullet that zooms really fast taking out anyone in your way!
Karts and Characters
There is a total of 12 characters and 36 karts! You have to do well to unlock certain characters and karts, but once you've unlocked everything, you can choose any character with any kart. There are advantages to certain karts and certain characters. Play around and find out what works best for you!The characters are:

Best Rated DS Game EVER
Not quite, but it should be!
Mario Kart DS is the third-best rated game on Metacritic.com with a score of 91! That is amazing. Only two games have scored better: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Chrono Trigger.Mario Kart DS is, in my opinion, the best game for several reasons. First, it's appropriate for anyone! GTA is not something I would want any child to play. Chrono Trigger can be a bit too complicated for some players. Mario Kart can be super easy or super hard, depending on how you want it to be.
Multiplayer in Mario Kart DS is superb. My friend and I can play battle endlessly and never get bored. We can race endlessly and never get bored.
Besides, Mario Kart has a fond place in everyone's heart!
