Before you purchase a dual screen portable DVD player, there are a few things to consider. Here are some suggestions:

The screen

The first thing to consider is screen size. Most dual screen players are intended for use in the car or van. Smaller can be more affordable but larger can provide better viewing. Seven to nine inch screens are most common. Clearly larger screens could be too large for the headrest. Resolution should also be considered for the best viewing quality.

Consumers also might want to consider ease of use as it relates to the screens. Some people prefer top loading designs and find them easier to access. While most remote controls allow the viewer to adjust volume, some parents want to be able to access volume on the screen where they can reach it from the front seat if necessary.

Installation

Ease of installation can be important certainly, but so is stability and safety. Systems that strap to the stanchions under the headrest will tend to be more secure and those with a single cable will create fewer wires to potentially get caught up in or broken. Screens that attach with straps however can be extremely easy to install.

Inputs and Compatibility

Consumers will want to assure the dual screen portable DVD player they choose will be compatible with the various DVD formats they will want to play. These devices can sometimes play CD's, MP3s, DIVX or AFI downloads, JPGs, and so forth, so if these are desired, shop for a device with this capability. Some players will have connections for plugging them into a TV, a game console, and so on for even more entertainment options. Certainly, there needs to be headphone inputs if viewers will want the opportunity to listen in private.

Memory

Some of these devices offer memory that allows the player to know where you left off viewing a movie when you stop. This means that when viewers return to watching the movie, it will start right where they left off.

Play Capabilities

Some dual screen portable DVD players will show a single movie between the two screens. Others allow each screen to display different entertainment. This is perfect when you have two passengers with different viewing needs.

Batteries

Some of these devices operate only through AC/DC or car battery power. It's convenient and you don't have to worry about dead batteries. Batteries on the other hand offer more flexibilty and the ability to use the screens when/where no AC/DC or car battery is available.

Accessory Items

Items like headphones for private listening and remote controls are very handy to have. Sometimes they come included and sometimes they have to be purchased separately.
