duane castles => The Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA) is a trade association of more than 50 professional liability (medical malpractice) insurance companies owned and operated by doctors and dentists. Collectively, these companies insure approximately 60 percent of America's private practice physicians, as well as dentists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. In addition, international affiliate members provide indemnification and other services to more than 400,000 healthcare professionals around the world.
Marketing Policies - Past sponsors and exhibitors are given the first option of refusal. All remaining sponsorships, ads and exhibits are available on a first come, first served basis. All ads and promotional materials are subject to approval by VCIA, and VCIA assumes no liability for content of any ads or promotional materials.

The release of the new logo denotes the initial phase of a comprehensive branding campaign-a complete new visual identity-for the PIAA. A long-term plan will guide the gradual transition of the identity into all of the Association's print and electronic communications, including a complete redesign of its website-expected to be available to the public sometime this year.

duane castles - Chairman => Captive vs. Traditional? Commercial insurance companies sell insurance to the general public and are licensed in all states in which they do business. By contrast, captive insurance companies insure only their owners, who are sophisticated entities with the ability to manage and retain their own risk. Consequently, the degree of regulatory oversight required for captives is different than that which is required for commercial insurers. The captive is licensed in only one state, and operates under the captive insurance law of that domicile.
Many large commercial companies withdrew from the medical malpractice business altogether. A crisis ensued as increased premiums failed to keep pace with the rising costs of protecting doctors against proliferating malpractice claims.

He was also a member of the advisory committee for the Arizona Department of Health, a member of the board of the Arizona Foundation for Medical Care, andmember of the liaison committee between the Maricopa County Bar Association and ArizonaMedical Association. DUANE CASTLES completed a three-year term on the PIAA Board ofDirectors as vice chair.
Exhibit Cancellation Policy - For exhibit cancellations received more than 60 days prior to the conference, VCIA maintains a cancellation penalty of 50% of the exhibit fees. If the cancellation is received less than 60 days from the first day of the conference, no refunds will be issued. => The PIAA is extremely disappointed with this ruling. If the Circuit Court's decision is upheld, this will be a blow to healthcare in the state of Illinois, and will have tremendous negative implications for physicians, the public, and the medical professional liability insurance industry. Caps on non-economic damages have proven to be successful (for over two decades in California, and most recently in the states of Texas and Mississippi, for example) in increasing patient access to healthcare and minimizing the need for increases in medical professional liability insurance premiums. The Circuit Court's decision that a limit on pain and suffering awards in medical liability cases is unconstitutional will once again open the floodgates to excessive verdicts and encourage non-meritorious lawsuits. We suspect that the improvements to Illinois' litigation environment, achieved through the passage of the state's 2005 medical liability law, will now erode. We will support the fight to overturn this ruling, and remain hopeful that the caps will be found constitutional upon appeal. The PIAA strongly believes that effective tort reform, including caps on non-economic damages, limitations on plaintiff attorney contingency fees, and collateral source rule reform with a ban on subrogation, is critical to maintain access to healthcare and for the stabilization of medical professional liability premiums.
In addition, since physicians examined the claims, important clues emerged showing why certain mishaps occurred. The physician-owned companies used this information to develop effective risk management programs which were more readily accepted by other doctors.
