Since I just got back from my vacation in Duck, North Carolina, it seemed only natural that I share my vacation experience with you!
We have been traveling to the Outer Banks for over 30 years to enjoy everything these barrier islands have to offer. Duck, North Carolina has been our favorite destination for about 20 years!
All of the photos on this lens were taken by me in Duck and I have added information and many links to inspire you to make Duck, North Carolina your next beach vacation!
Where is Duck, NC?
About Duck, North Carolina
Duck is the newest town in the Outer Banks of North Carolina! It was incorporated on May 1, 2002. The Town of Duck is named for the many waterfowl who migrate there every year.
In Duck, you can enjoy summer concerts in the Town Park or enjoy a stroll along the Soundside Boardwalk. Beaches, shopping, dining, water activities, art galleries, and beautiful Currituck Sound sunsets, what more could you ask for?
Also located in Duck is The Army Corps of Engineers Field Research Facility. Here data is collected about waves, currents, wind, and tides. Free tours are given during the summer months.

Places to Stay
We stay at the Barrier Island Station Resort in Duck, North Carolina. My parents have owned a timeshare at Barrier Island for over 15 years! It is a timeshare resort but also offers weekly and sometimes weekend rentals. They have special offers where you can stay for 2 nights and 3 days but you have to take the timeshare tour.

Fishing
Fishing is a big deal in the Outer Banks and you can enjoy it in Duck too! Grab your fishing rod and hit the surf at the Atlantic Ocean or the quieter waters of the Currituck Sound. Duck may be a small town but it offers a variety of restaurants to suit your fancy. Local seafood is on the menu at many of Duck's restaurants. Enjoy dinner overlooking the Currituck Sound at The Red Sky Cafe or Sunset Grille or get eat-in or carry out service at the Duck Deli. The Duck Deli is one of my personal favorites, if you like barbequed ribs and chicken, you will love this place!

- We take pride in our own smoked pork, chicken, beef and seafood. We cook daily using a hickory wood burning smoker. You will notice that all our white meats take on a pink color when smoked. This is called the "smoke ring." All of our meats are cooked at prescribed times and temperatures to insure proper cooking. Our sauces, salads & marinades are a combination of North Carolina recipes, & family recipes with a little Duck Deli flair.

At the end of the day, the activities wind down, and the sun creates it's final show over the Currituck Sound in Duck, North Carolina. There are many places to enjoy the view like the Sunset Grille over dinner and drinks, or the Waterfront Shops enjoying an ice cream cone. You might even be lucky enough to catch the astounding sunset view right from the deck of your beach house.
