Dukan Diet Review
I have put together a Dukan Diet review as the Dukan Diet is an extremely popular diet out of France that has an estimated 1.5 million followers, so there are now many testimonials and Dukan Diet reviews we can assesshow successful the Dukan diet really is.
Kate Middleton used this diet before her Royal Wedding in April 2011, Jennifer Lopez has used this diet with great success.
The Dukan Diet has 4 distinct phases, each with its own guidlines and purpose. Some of the phases deal with losing weight and others with maintaining it after you're already shed your excess weight. This makes the food choices on each phase somewhat different than those on the other phases.

Dukan Diet Phases
Dukan Diet Menu options phase by phase
Attack PhaseThis is an all protein phase that lasts 3 to 10 days, according to how much you have to lose. As all you can eat on this phase are high protein foods some of your options include:
Eggs
Meat such as beef, veal, and ham.
Fish
Seafood
Poultry (remove the skin and avoid duck). Chicken is excellent.
Fat free dairy products.
You need to cook these foods with no oil or as little of it as you can. You can drink water, tea, and coffee as well as other no sugar beverages.
As you can imagine, this is the hardest phase of the diet. It will be good to do it with a weight loss buddy and to increase your consumption of liquids to reduce hunger and sense of deprivation.
Cruise phase
This is the second phase you follow to lose weight after the initial attack phase. This phase will result in a more gradual weight loss and you should follow it until you reach your target weight.
On the cruise phase, you can add vegetables to your diet but you must avoid starchy ones such as potatoes, peas, and beans. Basically, you alternate between all protein days and protein and vegetables days, so this is sort of a half-attack phase. Being able to add salads to your diet makes it a lot easier.
However, this can still be a challenging few weeks as it can take a while for you to reach your target weight.
Consolidation Phase
This phase you begin to go back to a normal diet, introducing bread, fruit and more carbs rich food to your diet.
You still need to eat lots of protein so the menu builds up on that of the previous phases. There are so many ways you can now eat and combine fruit, bread, and the pasta you're now allowed so this is a phase with lots of freedom. In addition, you have two free-meals each week. You can eat what you like on them. I won't give you any ideas about what you can eat but I'm sure that you'll be able to come up with something.
Stabilization phase
On this final phase, you just need to have an all protein day once a week. Other than that, you have practically complete freedom to choose what you like and enjoy it. I wouldn't start stuffing myself with candy and chocolate, but you can definitely enjoy yourself more. The theory is that the one all protein day will be enough to maintain your weight for years to come.
This is how the Dukan Diet menu is arranged phase after phase.

Dukan Diet Review
The Dukan Diet does have merit and it does include steps to help the average person change his/her eating routine to that of the diet.
The Dukan Diet is a high protein weight loss plan. During the early stages of the diet you have many all protein days. The program is highly restrictive as it takes a while until you can once again eat things like bread, pasta, and other tasty food items.
If you're the sort of person who needs carbs on a regular basis, you will find the Dukan Diet plan extremely restrictive and hard to stick to. If you can get by the two initial phases, you should do quite well on this diet plan.

Dukan Diet Side Effects
Dukan diet stresses on the process of ketosis in which the body attacks its own fats. This process makes you cranky and hunger ridden. Such restrictive diets often make you gain weight rather than losing it.Since it is a high protein low carb diet, it directly aims at the kidney functions and creates potential risks of various kidney diseases. This diet is also found unsafe for the people who are at the risk of electrolyte imbalance.
Since the initial phases of the Dukan diet contain low carb and no fibers, the body falls short of the daily required amount of fiber, which results in several health conditions like constipation and diarrhea.
The high protein Dukan diet is an open invitation to several health conditions like gout and high cholesterol levels hence, the dieters having a heredity of both these medical conditions are on the verge of getting easily affected by them.
According to Dr. Dukan, you should consume a lot of water and oat bran to avoid the fiber deficiency which is experienced during the 'attack phase' of Dukan diet. Some other side effects of Dukan diet are: high uric acid levels and tartar buildups in the mouth.
One of the most common Dukan diet side effects is induction flu. Induction flu is caused as withdrawal symptoms of carbohydrates and fats. During induction flu, the dieter suffers with severe headache, lethargy, nausea, increased irritability, lack of concentration and increased crankiness! In short, the dieter suffers with all the symptoms of flu except fever and chills.
