New Addition to the Dungeon Siege Franchise

Dungeon Siege 3 is an action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment (developer) and Square Enix (publisher). It features classic Dungeon Siege gameplay of hack and slash, but offers a lot of improvements and changes as well. The game was released on June 17th, 2011 in Europe and June 21st in the United States for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows platforms simultaneously.

You can find out more about DS3 on our page below. We have news, screenshots, trailers, a list of the most interesting new features, and information on where to buy it. Don't forget to vote in our poll and tell us how much you enjoyed this game, either!

Game Features

Find out what Obsidian is doing with the franchise.

  • Elaborate storyline: players will return to the Kingdom of Ehb, tasked to rebuild the once-powerful 10th Legion and save the realm from descending into darkness. Obsidian is good at storytelling, so DS3 has a proper story, and you are able to make meaningful choices and achieve your goals in different ways.

  • Pick your Hero: instead of classes, you get to pick one of the four playable characters, each with their own name, abilities and backstory.

  • New advancement system: every character has 3 stances (2 offensive and 1 defensive), with a different array of abilities each. You can improve every ability in two different ways by assigning points you'll get by leveling.

  • Hack and slash combat: the game has been adapted for consoles, meaning impressive camera close ups and button mashing while battling armies of bad guys. Build up your Focus by using regular attacks, and use it to activate your special powers. Enhance your attacks further by using Power Orbs.

  • Active defense: dodge enemy attacks by rolling away, or activate your block ability which drains Focus as you use it. Furthermore, certain protective abilities are only available while in the defensive stance.

  • Multiplayer mode: the game does not have PvP, but it does include a co-op play mode that allows the players to drop in and out of the game seamlessly, vote on conversation choices, revive fallen teammates, and combine the strengths of different characters to defeat stronger enemies together.

Dungeon Siege 3 News & Reviews

Is Diablo III still relevant?
In the more than 10 years since Diablo II, that style of gameplay has been distilled and arguably perfected in games such as Torchlight, Titan Quest, Dungeon Siege III, and even games from other genres, such as Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.
I Still Have No Idea What The Hell Class To Play in Diablo III
I've always been at something of a loss when choosing classes in Diablo-like games, from Torchlight to Demon's Souls to Dungeon Siege III. In most Bethesda- or BioWare-like games, games with nuance and conversation, I prefer to play as a sneaky ...

    I really loved Dungeon Siege 2. I probably will play this sequel eventually :)

    The very reason the Dungeon Siege legacy is loved is due to its unique combination of game play, multiplayer and environmental elements along with a great loot system, ALL of which have been altered/removed. Its like having a Ferrari but removing the engine and painting it brown..... A pathetic game and complete waste of money. If you don't believe me - download it 1st and try it out yourself.

    I will defintely check it out, although some early reviews are giving it a bit of a bad rap. I will be my own judge though. Thanks for the lens.

    If you enjoyed Dungeon Siege I and II, you will lose what faith and expectations you had with Dungeon Siege III. In summary, four "game planning and design" negative points:

    1. Character movement, action and zoom controls are way off from DS-II and DS-III;
    2. Story and character conversation is like reading a 5-year-old bed-time story with its perfect grammar and total lack of sync with the game's atmosphere;
    3. Character and party management (items, magics, etc.) is like playing a console game from the 80's--a very familiar User Interface with Obsidian's Star Wars games.
    4. The pathways of the monsters, all walk in one line, which make a lot of players feel like playing a 2D game.

    For all of us original Dungeon Siege fans, you might be a little bummed out with this game. The game doesn't feel at all like Dungeon Siege, maybe more like Torchlight mixed with Diablo... I miss my groups I could have in the previous ones too :(

    But if you have never played a Dungeon Siege game before, this is a pretty decent RPG.

    glad i downloaded this before i wasted my money. the camera is such a huge piece of crap that I couldn't even enjoy the rest of it. The combat had some combos but it was hard to control imo.. and the premade characters with no real diversity... bleh.

    don't waste your money

    The camera controls are horrid.
    Any fun is spoiled by trying to shift and control what you see.
    Also a lot of dead ends; you are supposed to find a key but where are they? The first and maybe second keys you should already have, or at least explained in a gradient way.

    premade character = flat out refusal to buy ill stick with dungeon siege 2 thanks
  • xregg Jun 16, 2011 @ 11:09 pm | delete
    Yeah man DS2 was epic! My favorite part about characters, u could pick anything from melee/ranged/nature/combat magic no restrictions, and then u get a title like "Crusader", "Hedge Wizard", "Warder", etc. it was awesome ^^

    Why make DS3 an action RPG? Maybe because the previous DS games are also action RPGs?
