Dungeons and Dragons

the Original RPG

Dungeons and Dragons is a fantasy roleplay game published by Wizards of the coast and originally invented by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. It was first published in 1974 by Gygax's TSR. AS of 2006, there were an estimated 20 million players of Dungeons and Dragons worldwide and over $1billion USD in book and equipment sales. With the release of Dungeons and Dragons Online those numbers can only increase.

If you happen to be a D&D fan or know one, this is the right place to be for some great holiday gift buying action! Don't forget to rate this lens and leave a comment or two.  Just another quick note, if you are an eBay seller that has some D&D stuff up for grabs, make sure to email me so that I can help promote you! Great Dungeons and Dragons Links

Here are just a few links that every player should have bookmarked. The Demo is for the tabletop version, not the online game. Though there is a 10 day trial of the Dungeons and Dragons Online game out there. I'll give you that link later on :)

Make sure to check out the D&D wiki as well, there is some good stuff there. The official forums are linked here as is the D&D homepage. I suggest dropping by to see some of the cool stuff they have for free download, which includes a lot fo the old product line.

Also, make sure to drop by The DM Reference as well. Roger is one hard working dude that is keeping the spirit of Dungeons and Dragons going strong. The gaming world needs more people like Roger and THAT my friends is a serious fact. You can use the Reference online or download it for all of your offline needs as well. Keep it going strong Roger!

Oh Yeah! I Play D&D

While I can sit here and tell you all about how the game is played and what the game is, I think that is better left to others. So, make sure you see the video below and you can check out the wikipedia entry as well. What I will tell you is that I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons, in one form or another, since I was about 12 years old. That makes it almost 18 years for you kids that don't want to do the math. I love the game, I love the characters, and I love the interaction with my friends.

A Dungeons and Dragons group is much like the characters that make up the party. There are those that you love and those that you love to hate. I've played with a lot of other people that I've not cared too much for and I've made some quality, life-long friends from D&D groups. The funny thing is that, just like with online gaming, sometimes all you know a person by is their character's name. I would suggest that eventually you learn everybody's name though :)

While going through this lens, make sure to notice that I have written my own reviews on not only every module, but nearly every product as well.

Oh yeah, and that Dread Pirate Roberts rip off over in the corner of this module... that's my current character, Estevan. Yep, I even cared enough to go all Gamer Geek and draw him out.

D&D an Explanation

After surfing through a LOT od silly D&D videos on youtube, I found an awesome explanation of the game.

Dungeons and Dragons Gaming Worlds

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Official Home Page
The Realms encompasses both one fantasy world and all fantasy worlds. Whatever you look for in fantasy can be found on Faerun, the setting of the Forgotten Realms game. Dragons fly the night skies, valiant heroes seek fame and fortune, the gods themselves speak through their pious servants, and mysterious wizards hunt the secrets of magics lost in time.
Eberron Official Home Page
The world of Eberron is ravaged by centuries of war that have only recently ended. Enemy nations that fought each other to a standstill over countless, bloody battlefields now turn to subtler methods of conflict. The assassin's dagger replaces the warrior's sword, and the conspirator's whisper speaks more loudly than the general's bellow.
Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures Official Home Page
The D&D Miniatures line features hundreds of ready-to-play miniatures from the Dungeons & Dragons universe. You'll find heroes, villains, and monsters of all descriptions. Now you can play out furious battles, add the miniatures to your roleplaying sessions, or trade and collect the miniatures set by set.

Dungeons and Dragons at the Movies

and on tv!

Can you believe that after so long of a time in mainstream media that there have only been two D&D movies made? One would think that movie makers would love to cash in on the publicity that this game has generated over the years. We did have the Saturday morning cartoon back in the 80's though :)

D&D Miniatures

One of the other things that we D&D gamers love is miniatures. These are pretty much tiny physical representations of your character. We use them on battle grids for more accurate combat positions. We also use them for general gameplay as well. What you will find is that unless you buy a miniature first, and then make your character around them, that it is hard as hell to find a miniature that is PERFECT for you. The cool thing is, there are thousands of miniature companies out there for you to buy from. I'll show you a few here. Make sure to realize that these are Dungeons and Dragons miniatures, meaning that they are the little metal vesrions meant to be used with Dungeons and Dragons. These are NOT the stand alone Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures game that you read about in the Gaming world setion from above.
