So.. what's with the Phantom Suede, anyway?

The Phantom Suede was the first shoe that Dunnit made..way back in 2001 (just before the Space Odyssey). Retro Sneakers were the thing and Dunnit was the new kid on the block. Dunnit designed new styles and new updates but dunnito's (peeps who wear dunnits - i just made that up) still wanted their Phantom Suedes!!
Why? Who knows!!
Could be because they love the simplicity of this retro sneaker from the 60's and 70's.
Or, maybe, because it is available in about 20 different color combos.
Comfortable... sure, that's a possibility!
Affordable? yea, but all Dunnit styles are affordable.
Probably just because it's a cool shoe with a cool name made by a cool company!!

The History of Cool

In the 1940's, Adidas was established in Germany and fast became the leading sports shoe in the world. Together with Puma, Adidas controled the sneaker market for 30 years. In case you were unaware, Adidas and Puma were started by the Dassler brothers (Adi and Rudi) who went on to compete aggressively with one another for years.
Adidas brought into it's fold, with corporate acquisitions, some other big brands -Taylormade,Saloman and Reebok.
In the 1970's a new giant was born. Nike started out making running shoes for track meets. After a decade long battle for supremecy with Reebok in the 1980's and 1990's,Nike emerged as the leading Athletic Shoe in the USA and was set to take on the mighty Adidas for Universal Supremecy. Nike, too, began to acquire stumbling brands. Bauer, Hurley, Converse (owner of the once "so cool" Chuck Taylor) and, recently, Umbro.
These two sporting giants, Nike and Adidas, have become icons that are symbolic of the greed of "Corporate America". These massive corporate machines are driven by control, greed and profits. Each shoe, golf club, ball or tee-shirt is manufactured for the sole purpose of creating more wealth and control for their owners and shareholders. Consumers are enticed by clever advertising to buy the product (and unbeknown to them, the consumers are actually financing the marketing of these shoes).
In the 2000's little Dunnit was born, and at the same time a small contingent of indie musicians, artists and students decided that Corporate America was not so cool. Their product was good - but Corporate America was uncool. So they began to separate themselves from the masses that were controlled by Corporate America and set out to search for their own individuality. This group supports small companies that rely on viral and mouth-to-mouth marketing and have no ambitions to conquer the world. These small companies have given this group's members the opportinity to, once again, express their individuality resulting in the resurgence of creativity, social-conscience and accompishment.
