Red Carpet Massacre Tour

Back in the 80's, Duran Duran was one of the hottest groups going and I loved them but being a Mom to my very young (at the time) son and other family obligations kept me out of the concert scene for most of that decade. I'm so happy to announce that Duran Duran is back on tour, my son and his younger brother, are now fully able to care for themselves, and I was finally able to grab a ticket and go see one of my all-time favorite groups in person.

The show was absolutely fantastic and they sounded just as good as I remember them from MTV and the radio. They were promoting their new album "Red Carpet Massacre" and were out on the US leg of their "Red Carpet Massacre Tour" when they came to my town.

Duran Duran mingled tunes from their new album with old favorites which included, Hungry Like the Wolf, The Wild Boys, Planet Earth, Come Undone The Reflex, Girls on Film, Save a Prayer, etc.etc. I don't think the crowd stopped dancing for a minute. It was that good!

Simon LeBon and the group all looked great and moved like lighting.

If you heard any thunder on the night of May 21, 2008 it may have been the crowd at the Koka Booth Amphitheater erupting in applause for Duran Duran's encore version of their hit Rio.

Their new album may not have hit the skyrocketing heights of their old ones but for the true Duran Duran fan I think it's a must-have!

And if you get the chance to see this concert, or any others they might have in the future, GO! I promise you will not be disappointed. Some 28 years later Duran Duran is still HOT!

Red Carpet Massacre - The Album

from Wikipedia

Red Carpet Massacre is the 12th studio album by British pop group Duran Duran. It was released on November 19, 2007 in Europe, and on the 13th in the United States. On June 26, the official Duran Duran website confirmed the title of the album and announced some of the song titles.

Most of the music on the current incarnation of the album was completed in late 2006 after the departure of band member Andy Taylor, when music producer Timbaland began working with the band.

For the week of November 19th, Red Carpet Massacre debuted at #36 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 29,000 copies in its first week. However, the following week the album fell to #116. For the week of November 26th, the album debuted at #44 in the UK, becoming the 2nd poorest UK Chart entry in the band's career. The album entered the Italian chart at #10. As of May 2nd, 2008, the album has moved to 88,000 copies sold in the U.S. The album spent only 3 consecutive weeks in the Billboard 200 chart.

Koka Booth Amphiteater

May 21, 2008

We saw Duran Duran at the Koka Booth Ampitheater at Regency Park in Cary, NC and I have to say that this is now mine and my husband's favorite venue to see concerts.

The Koka Booth offers three levels of seating, reserved seats (which are closest to the stage) lawn seating, and a section with tables that includes waite service.

We chose the table section because it is the only area in the outdoor theater that offers a covered enclosure (in case of rain, which thankfully it didn't. We had the perfect night!)and I have to say that I have never felt so much like royalty while attending a concert. This is definitely the Boomer way to see a concert!

We had a terrific waiter who brought us a bottle of wine and a couple of personal pizzas. We were sitting furthest away from the band but the experience of "somewhat" fine dining while being at a concert was unreal.

The Koka Booth Amphitheater also offers a service where you can order in from your choice of two restaurants and have your "picnic in the park" ready and waiting for you when you arrive. (We'll probably try this next time.)

The table seating and the reserved (up close) seats are sold at premium prices but for about half of that amount you can buy a lawn (general admittance) spot, bring your own blanket or chair, and enjoy the same show for less!

If you live nearby, or are ever in the area, I highly suggest that you spend some time at the Ampitheater. Now that I've found it, you are going to find me there quite often!

This coming September they will be hosting a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert. Wish me luck on getting tickets. (Update: Got the tickets! Can't wait!)

Duran Duran - A New Direction

From Wikipedia.com article

In early 2006, Duran Duran covered John Lennon's song "Instant Karma" for the Make Some Noise campaign sponsored by Amnesty International to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Lennon's death, and performed at two high profile events - the Nobel Prize Awards and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

After a couple of weeks of songwriting in California, the band began working with producer Michael Patterson in London, and continued intermittently for the next several months. At one point, they reported having fifteen tracks nearly complete for an album tentatively titled Reportage, but no further news emerged from the band for months afterward. In September, the band held meetings in New York City with Justin Timberlake and producer Timbaland with an eye to a potential collaboration and were soon reported to have completed three songs with the producer, including a duet with Timberlake.

On October 25, 2006, Andy Taylor parted ways with Duran Duran for the second time. In an official announcement on their website, Duran Duran stated that an "unworkable gulf" had developed between them and Taylor and that "we can no longer effectively function together". Dominic Brown, who had previously toured with the band, took over guitar duties and has been performing with them since. After Taylor's departure, the band scrapped the Reportage album and wrote and recorded a new album which included the Timbaland tracks. Dominic Brown is the featured guitarist.

In July, the band performed twice at the massive Wembley Stadium, at the Concert for Diana and at Live Earth concert, London. As of May 2008, they are on the US leg of their 2008 world tour.

On September 25, the Timberlake collaboration "Falling Down" was released as a download single on iTunes, and the band announced that they would play nine shows at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway to launch the album Red Carpet Massacre. The album launch was later extended to incorporate a show in London on December 3, 2007 (2007-12-03) and one in Dublin on December 5, 2007 (2007-12-05).

Sample Question:

How did Duran Duran get their name?

The band took their name from Roger Vadim's 1960's cult sci-fi classic film "Barbarella," starring Jane Fonda. There was a character played by Milo O'Shea called Durand Durand.

You know, I missed the "Red Carpet Massacre Tour" -- wonder why they picked the word Massacre? Bonnie says it was one of the best concerts that she has seen -- wow!

They were one of my favorite bands in the 80s. Who can ever forget the Rio video! Well it looks as though I have missed them this time around though as they were in my home town last month.

To be honest, when I lived on Long Island I never would have imagined this kind of stuff either but Cary, NC wasn't rated the number 1 place to live by Money Magazine for nothing. This place is amazing! We even have a movie theater that serves wine...LOL

Wow, it sounds like you had an amazing night! I think I've been going to the wrong kind of concerts because I've never been treated to such luxuries like waiters and wine. I'm happy to hear that you were finally lucky enough to get your chance to see them live. :)

Yes! I saw Duran Duran when I was 14. We have 10th row Center floor seats and were close enough to feel the sweat. It was one of the best concerts I ever saw. Glad to see that the boys are still better then ever!
