Dutch delicacies available in the United States
Have you ever enjoyed typical Dutch cuisine? I did, because I lived in the Netherlands for almost 10 years. I admit, before I moved to Holland, I had no idea what to expect as far as food was concerned (or much else, for that matter! I hadn't been outside of the United States before I moved to Rotterdam). Typical Dutch foods include fries (frites) with mayonnaise sauce, bread with hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles), and stamppot, a kind of one-pan meal made from mashed potatoes and other vegetables, usually served with meat and sauce. My favorites are satesaus (peanut sauce) and especially Dutch chocolate. But where can I find these things now that I've moved back to the United States?! Below are some of the sources I have found, and I am always looking for more! Have you seen Dutch foods in a local shop? Please let me know by adding a comment to the guestbook below!
