Duvet Buying Guide

Choosing a Duvet
Choosing a Duvet can be a little confusing. There are many different types, weights, warmth etc. The weight, softness and warmth of a duvet depends on its tog rating and filling. Duvets come in a range of tog ratings and in natural and synthetic materials, so you can choose bedding that meets your needs and price range and ensures maximum comfort. This lens will help you choose the right one.

Types of Duvet
Choose your filling
For a light, soft and comfortable duvet you want to choose one that has natural fillings. A duvet with natural fillings will often last longer than a duvet with synthetic fillings as they are highly resilient. If however you have allergies to feathers and down then you will want to avoid the natural fillings and go with a duvet that has synthetic fillings. If you need to wash a natural filled duvet it is best to get it professionally laundered.
It pays to go with quality when choosing your duvet and in fact you can get as much as 30 years out of a good naturally filled duvet. This compares to a life span of only 10 years for a synthetically filled duvet. Factors that will affect the lifespan of your duvet include how often you get it laundered as well as how much sitting or lying on top of the duvet you do.
Natural fillings
In terms of natural fillings you are looking at either goose down or duck feather and down duvets. Typically the goose down ones are lighter and is what a lot of people prefer. Even though a goose down duvet is lighter you are not giving up any warmth.
Synthetic fillings
If you think you will wash your duvet often and also have some allergies then in terms of synthetic fillings it is good to go with hollow fibre duvets.
