DVD Copy 6 by Corel was our favorite, obviously, throughout the testing phase. It's just easy. You can't screw it up - no matter the complexity or daunting nature of your projects.

The animated color wheel - it's so cute, and so very useful and non-confusing. This is what makes using this particular program so pleasing: it runs smoothly and looks good while doing it.

My DVD 10 by Roxio is a comprehensive DVD burning software with audio, video, DVD and editing functions. Compression and conversion is automatic and lets you format your home movies, DVDS and slideshows for DVD discs, mobile phones, portable media such as iPod and PSP, wireless devices and the web. Because we firmly believe in the mantra "try before you buy" we feel the only thing this software lacks is a trial copy.

DVD Cloner 8 is well deserving of its high ranking on this side-by-side comparison of DVD burning software. Though it boasts the ability to decrypt some CSS codes, the software also repeatedly prompts you that you are on your own if you get yourself into legal trouble using their product. Seems responsible and on the up-and-up: a lot of these programs could very well get you into trouble, for example if you batch-copy 200 duplicates of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and try to sell them on the street. Someone will find you. But if you're harmlessly backing up your DVD collection and data files, this program is superior to most of the competition.

Power2Go is a great-looking program with many great features. It is easy to use, but also was the most (relatively) difficult to get to work and figure it all out, despite the great Sidebar Gadget. The advanced burning features are perfect for the knowledgeable user.

Nero Burning ROM has the look of a well designed DVD burning software program but it doesn't really deliver on many points: mainly ease of use and functionality in general. There are many, many options for all types of data and perhaps this is why the learning curve (and the file size) is relatively big. Anyone with the time to fully explore the program and its guides and manuals could probably figure out how to use this program to its fullest.

But when the main criticism of the program is that there are too many options and it might take a bit to learn how to use them all - is that really a bad thing or just a great reason to buy the program immediately so you can begin learning to use all its secrets to your own benefit?

Express Burn Plus by NCH Software is an exceptionally speedy and tightly edited gem of a DVD burning program. It is ideal for someone who already owns an external burning drive and who desires to make reliable, quick backups of any type of file.

No NCH software can be used to circumvent copy-protected or region-protected discs of any kind - as the site plainly warns. Express Burn Plus is designed for backing up and copying your own content.

Ulead MovieFactory 6 is a well-organized program offering authoring and burning capabilities. This program does not offer any video conversion for PC and mobile devices. Check out Corel DVD Copy 6 for that.

Purchasing and maintaining DVDs is a costly enterprise and now the DVD format itself is on the cusp of becoming obsolete. Not that you won't be able to continue watching your DVDs for many years into the unforeseeable future - because you absolutely will be able to do this. No one's quite sure, however, for how much longer DVDs will continue to be made. Blu-ray Discs just offer so much more storage space (five times as much!) and high definition...

Overall, NTI MediaMaker 8 is an excellent DVD burning software product.

Overall, Gear will accomplish a very narrow set of DVD burning software tasks, but it does accomplish them well.
