DVD to Ipod Converter

My kids gave me an iPod for Christmas last year. I really didn't need one because I already have an mp3 player. My son was going on and on about how I could watch movies on the iPod. I thought that was pretty cool so I hooked my iPod up to the computer and popped in a DVD.

You would think that when you buy an iPod they would include the software you need to convert your movies to the proper format which, I soon discovered, is MPEG4. You can also use high quality format called "H.264". I began searching the internet to find what I needed.

I ended up trying several different programs which I talk about in this lens. Read on and decide for yourself. All three of the brands that I talk about have trial versions that you can download and try out for free. If you find the information here helpful, please take a minute and give my lens a rating.

After trying several open source scripts that I got from some programming sites that I know of, one of which gave me a virus. I decided to try 3 of the major brands that have trial versions that you can download and try out for free.

Open source is just another way of saying free and I really don't recommend using these scripts. You never know what you are getting and sometimes there is malicious code embedded in them. I'll never figure out why people are just hateful like that but they are. You are better off going with a brand name software provider.

The 3 programs I tried where Avex, Cucusoft, and PQ. I gotta be honest, there really isn't much difference between the three as far as price and functionality. They all cost about $30. They all have the same features and do the same thing.

All three put out a good quality end result. The picture was good and the audio as well. The only thing that really stood out was the speed of the Avex converter.

The Avex software uses a built in "X!-Speed" transcode technology that they have trade marked. I could really tell a big difference in the conversion time which can take a while if you do an entire DVD movie.
