Tools Needed for Beginning Jewelry Making
Here is a great list of tools you will need for beginning Jewelry making. Be sure if you are new to jewelry making that you purchase tools that have springs in them. Some less expensive pliers do not have springs in them and are more difficult to use.
2 Pair of Chain Nose Pliers - These are good for opening jump rings and making loops in you head and eye pins.
1 Pair of Side Cutting Pliers - Use these for cutting your head and eye pins or wire (such as Accu-Flex) if you are stringing beads.
1 Pair of Round Nose Pliers - Use these for making your loops in head and eye pins
If you are going to be using Accu-Flex, Beadalon or any other stringing wire you will also need a good pair of crimping pliers.
Please be sure to look at the examples below.
My Favorite Pliers
If you do not want to invest in such a high priced tool and want to try something out my next favorite is the pliers with an ergonomic grip. These are quite suitable and will not make your hands sore. I take these with me when I participate in craft fairs. That way if I loose them I am not too worried about it.

- Good Example of Side Cutting Pliers
- These are a must have for any jewelry designer. I love this style and how it fits in your hand. Other styles make my hands sore when I am spending hours on my designs.
- Good Example for Chain Nose Pliers
- These are a must have for any jewelry designer. I have two pair. One for holding my head pins or eye pins while I wrap the wire with the other pair. I love this style and how it fits in your hand. Other styles make my hands sore when I am spending hours on my designs.
- Good Example of Round Nose Pliers
- I am pretty picky about my round nose pliers. The end has to have the perfect size for me and even though this pair doesn't have the ergonomic comfort molded plastic grips I prefer them over any other.
I actually have two pair of round nose pliers. One of style above and then another with a smaller tip. Some times in my jewelry designs it calls for a little smaller tip, but not often. - Good Example of Crimping Pliers
- There aren't many choices when it comes to Crimping Pliers. They are all about the same.

- I like working with small items like jewelry made from stones I find along the beach. I use my cordless air compressor to turn my rock polisher, and then an air brush tool to add detail.
Nice lens.
