This is a really nice DVD player. Got this for 70 bucks at Circuit City. 1080p upscaling through HDMI, plays Divx and Divx Ultra, USB port for iPods and flash drives, and support for nearly any DVD. How to Make Your Philips DVP5982 Region Free

As it comes in the box, the DVP5982 DVD Player will be preset to Region 1 for the US and Canadian markets. However, with the simple entry of a six digit code number through the included remote handset, you can make your DVP5982 region free in no time at all.

Follow these instructions one at a time
  1. Power Up the unit with NO DVD Disc in the tray
  2. Open the tray
  3. Press the SETUP Button on the remote control
  4. Navigate to the PREFERENCES page using the Right Arrow Key
  5. Press the DOWN ARROW one time to select
  6. Enter the following digits on the remote control - 1 3 8 9 3 1
  7. The current Region Code Setting will display on screen
  8. Use the UP/DOWN Arrow Keys to select the region required or '0' for All Regions
  9. Press the PLAY Button on the remote control
  10. NOTE - The 0 (zero) in the above sequence represents the Region Code 0 - Region Free. If you prefer to set to a specific region, just replace the 0 (zero) with the region number that you want.
