The Dwarf Hamster Diet...

As you know, your new dwarf hamster is a nocturnal animal. That being said, the best time to feed them would be in the evening. This is when they are just beginning to move around from their daytime slumber. Because they are so small, feeding only needs to be once a day. The dwarf hamster is a very special creature, so it requires a very special diet. The same foods that affect you, will affect your hamster. So be careful and make sure that you feed them a healthy, well balanced meal.

A special note concerning treats...

We know that you love your hamster and you want to reward and treat it whenever possible, but you must be careful. If you give your hamster too many treats, just like a child, they will become spoiled. I know it sounds silly but hamsters have the same terperament as children, and what happens if you give children treats all the time? They don't want to eat their regular food! That's exactly what will happen with your hamster. So treat them in moderation.

Foods You Should Never Give Your Dwarf Hamster!

Pork
Chocolate
Almonds
Peanut Butter
Garlic
Onions
Citrus Fruits

All of these foods have the ability to make your dwarf hamster sick, and in some cases they can kill! So be especially careful with the kinds of treats you are giving the little guy/girl!

I know we have discussed the healthy hamster mix and the dwarf hamster treats that you can feed your little buddy but, don't forget the vegetables. As I said before, your hamster needs the same thing nutritionally as you do, so don't forget to give him/her natural green leafy veggies.

These veggies ensure that your hamsters digestive system is working in perfect order. So make sure that you give them veggies at least 2 or 3 times a week. This will closely mimic the diet that they are used to in the wild. If you stick with a well balanced diet, then you will be on your way to a healthy and happy dwarf hamster.
