The Causes of Obesity

We are all busy, but this does not mean that we have to eat everything fast food restaurants put before you. Burgers may look good, but they are fat too highly powered got your health. Thing is, a single burger is worth a whole meal, but your body does not judge the situation this way. Your stomach will never be filled by a regular burger, so it will keep asking for more, despite the fact that your body does not need more burgers.

Obesity is caused by unhealthy eating combined with sustained lack of activity. If food gives you more calories than you burn, your body turns on the storage program and puts on fat. This is the basic idea behind obesity.

Disorderly eating habits are the top reason why people becaome obese. With neither the time, nor the inclination to control one's meals, it's no wonder people get fat all over the world. Couple that with a sedentary lifestyle where most trips are taken by car and you got a health situation out of control.

Obesity can also be inherited from family members who suffered from it. If your family has a history of obesity, then you would do well to watch your weight.

Diet - What Should We Eat?

So what can we do to be sure our diet is both helping us to lose weight and stay healthy in the long run?

The most important thing when it comes to diets is to use common sense. Common sense wouldn't let us starve to death with plenty of food around us and it would most likely make us feel we've had too much when we give way to our eating cravings!

The next very important thing is to understand that our body needs proteins, fats, sugars, fibers, vitamins and minerals at all meals if it is to feel satisfied with what we've been eating. Ideally, every time we eat, our plate should have some protein, a little fat and a little fibrous mass to ensure that we feel full and satisfied.

Another thing we hear all the time is that raw food is better - as in healthier - than cooked food. It follows that we have to eat as much raw food as possible. But we are not told that eggplants and beans sometimes harbor toxic compounds that can wreak havoc on our digestive tract if we eat them raw. Many starch containing plants cannot be eaten raw because our bodies do not process that particular type of starch unless transformed by high temperature processing - cooking, that is.

Other veggies, like carrots, contain fragile nutrients that can be destroyed in a frying pan. But cooked carrots still contain tons of great nutrients and vitamins. And no, there is no evidence that sushi is any better for us than grilled salmon. What to do then? Eat a mixture of raw and cooked fruits and veggies, and use common sense. If it's normally eaten raw, go for it. If it's usually cooked into a culinary delight, don't eat it raw.
