From the lens Where have all the eBay Sellers gone?.

  • EclecticNana May 31, 2012 @ 7:36 am | delete
Thanks for a great lens. I'm still undecided about where to sell. I just opened on Webstore and I have an account on eBay, just not sure it's worth doing anything with.
  • ifeelgod May 30, 2012 @ 9:35 am | delete
I used to be a power seller, but my market dried up on ebay. They were and are such a pain. Thanks for this lens
  • Kimbesa May 27, 2012 @ 10:24 am | delete
Can I give this 100 likes? I've moved on to other things, not just other venues. Too bad, eBay had its day, now it's just an "also ran."
  • Upon-Request May 27, 2012 @ 9:00 am | delete
Great lens - I was an eBay seller for more than 10 years off and on but between them and USPS I lost all hope of ever being able to make a profit. *blessed
  • Frischy May 27, 2012 @ 7:55 am | delete
I really want to find another online buying/selling venue. I got fed up with eBay several years ago.
  • aksem62 May 27, 2012 @ 1:44 am | delete
    I'd got impressed. Thank you

I was an eBay seller for near 2 years and was doing well - I was a small seller from home, and I am NOT a seller anymore. It was weird how THEY booted me, saying I had too many negatives one month... that i didn't! I tried talking to someone and got nowhere. so they put me on a month restriction and I had excellent feedback.. I went to list again and the next day I was closed out. I messaged and I called someone and got no where. I gave up

WOW! Thanks for sharing your ideas and tips with the squid community. This is a fantastic lens! Keep up the great work.

One big thumbs up vote given for this lens.

    Impressive lens, thumbs up

Love the eBay shirt. I used to sell quite actively until a few years ago. I think that eBay just got a little too big for their pants.
  • MarkHudson Jul 26, 2011 @ 2:51 pm | delete
Thanks for this lens, I walked away from eBay as a powerseller 4 years ago in protest of their newly introduced DSR and fee increases and never looked back.
  • veryirie Jul 21, 2011 @ 2:52 am | delete
I hadn't hit quite 500 buys/sells on Ebay when I started noticing all the disgruntled sellers. Ebay said they had stopped all the duplicate posting of items (the made in China stuff where the sellers buy items by the 100s and sell), however, I still continue to see the same repeat merchandise regularly during searches. Very discouraging when you're looking for those unique one of a kind vintage pieces. UGH! :(
  • Jun 26, 2011 @ 3:50 pm | delete
I am not very aware about the changes @ eBay. Rarely visit it, I think it may be an attempt by eBay to mimic Amazon.com and become a large online retailer. Miaponzo writes that some of the policies have been set right, maybe that will improve things for small sellers.
  • miaponzo Jun 13, 2011 @ 2:59 am | delete
Now that Ebay has recanted some of their no so good polices.. maybe people will come back now.. :) Better..
  • DecoratingforEvents Nov 16, 2010 @ 6:12 pm | delete
You are soooo right Sylvia! I have lost touch with some of my fave eBay sellers, just can't find them anymore. Now I have some resources to look for them. Thanks!
  • Sylvestermouse Sep 10, 2010 @ 7:46 pm | delete
As an Ebay seller, I can easily attest to the validity of everything you have said. Ebay is driving sellers out of business with their excessive charges. Just a few months ago my Ebay store monthly fee went from $19.95 to $49.95. What did I gain with this price change other than the higher fee? That is an excellent question. I have looked at a couple of the other sites you mentioned, but I resist change and the unknown. I guess I am hanging in there hoping that they will get a clue.
  • bygproductions Jun 19, 2010 @ 10:38 am | delete
Timely lens for me, as I plan to start selling some things again. I'll have to take a look at the alternatives. For homemade and vintage items Etsy.com is a good option.
  • Brookelorren Jun 18, 2010 @ 3:14 pm | delete
EBay disappointed me when they disallowed selling teacher's editions of schoolbooks on its site. I still buy on occasion there, but I haven't sold there in a long time. I will probably be looking at the alternatives when I buy books this fall.

Great article with some good suggestions. In this uncertain economic time, you offer some timely information. Blessed today by this Squid Angel.

As an eBay seller of six years' standing, I feel the same way about it as you do although I haven't given up on it completely. I definitely think they're trying to ditch the small, niche people who sell OOAK items in favour of people who sell multiples of one item. I wonder if that policy is going to come back and bite them in the backside at some stage though.
  • LakeLassie1948 Dec 26, 2009 @ 12:02 am | delete
Yes. Did you notice the ebay tv ads for holidays? No collectables, fun stuff, it was all for new things. People buying new clothes, sport equipment etc. No little people selling collectables.

Industry experts say that is exactly what they are doing, going for big box stores that sell new items. Less trouble for ebay. However, their first venture into this, GM cars in California, closed down early. Few sales and GM pulled out very disappointed that going on ebay did not get them lots of direct car sales. They planned to sell nationwide but just did not get the traffic from ebay. Kind of funny and sad. GM laid off dealerships and planned to sell directly to public.

Thank you so much for this lens !

I now sell on mybisi and ecrater and I love it !
For either one, it is OrganicGiftsByDiana

My daughter is GypsyQueenMedia on ecrater. She moved to there from the big "A" because they were anal and as bad as the "bay"

This is such a pretty lens.
    Great job !

I wish you well with your sales :)

    Organically Yours,

Sold on ebay for 6 years until the whole system became anti-small seller & fees went over the moon. Suspended for no reason! I now have my own website and sell on an English site, ebid.net. Ebid.net is #2 for on line auction site in world (3,000,000 daily auctions) & w/ good reason. Fair rules, reversable feedback, seller determines payment method, & friendly forums (they collect & send flowers when someone is sick!!). Join for $50, no listing fees for life. No relisting fees, & only 2% fee when item is sold. FIVE free stores too. Five free pictures & free t-shirt. Less traffic but heck, we grew 15% last month and added 500,000 auctions in last 6 weeks. Brazing hot, this is an excellent site w/ an automatic google download that has our items listed there within hours. Check out auction site daily totals on powersellersunite.com & go w/ the biggest and best alternative to ebay, ebid.net.

Former Ebay seller has moved to Bonanzle, where I am allowed to speak with other vendors without thinking that BIG BROTHER is monitoring my moves like a criminal. The ease of listing, the reasonable fees, the community camaraderie is wonderful. Looking for Ebay sellers-look to bonanzle.com....I resent 3e the sellers being judged "guilty" before they are given an opportunity to comment...I have integrity, a l00% feedback history (over 5 years-no easy feat!) and I simply am fed up with having to change my listings every time the rules change-I only want my time to be spent listing & CATERING to my clients. I always ship within 3 days, charge fairly for shipping (sometimes take a loss, as a matter of fact) all of a sudden with my l00% feedback, my stars were not filled in-and I had not one CUSTOMER complaint, so I do NOT trust the veracity ..feel like the smaller time sellers were given a kick in the rear to LEAVE....HAPPY AT BONANZLE

Its getting harder to find things at a bargain on Ebay which is why I started buying there in the first place.
  • CCGAL Jul 13, 2009 @ 2:12 pm | delete
I've been exploring some of the other avenues for selling, but even with the price increases and the other eBay changes, my sales are still coming from eBay not the other locations. Still, I liked how you put this together and I'm dropping 5* at the top and adding you to a few of my lenses that deal with selling online. Good job!

Thank You! A very refreshing squidoo lens! Hope to cross paths again! Check out GoAntiques, another place that will soon be starting their online auction site very similar to the "old school" ebay. Presently you can sell fixed priced listings but the auction format is on it's way!

It was (is) Ebay that has (is) written off the sellers and buyers.
  • Oct 13, 2008 @ 6:34 pm | delete
Nice lens, 5-stars for you. I think a major reason for the mass exit is that sellers can no longer leave negative feedback. That can cause a seller major problems. And with that threat gone, it emboldens(some) buyers to demand unreasonable things. This can make it very difficult to earn a decent profit. Just my 2-cents worth.

Where have all the eBay sellers gone? This one, not far! As an eBay seller, I love that you managed to accomplish this lens without being overly negative about eBay. I think choice is a very good thing...choice for the buyer and for the seller...but I guess you have written eBay off totally since you don't feature it as a Shopper's Resource....
