Why use eBid forum members when you're looking for a seller?

Ranked #6,184 in Internet, #295,418 overall

If you've been looking at any of my lenses, you'll know there's one thing I bang on about more than anything else...eBid. In case you don't know, eBid is the "alternative" auction site - smaller, cheaper, and less well known than the market leader. And those are only a few of its charms! Of course, if you're a buyer looking for items on eBid it has one great disadvantage, and that's "never 'eard of it!" So, if you're going to hand over your hard-earned cash to somebody on eBid, how do you choose, and who?

I've put together a list of top tips, that I'll include here, for safe buying on eBid, but there's one more toppest tip of all I'd add... buy from a forum member! If you've found an item you like the look of, as well as the various tips in my list, the best thing you can do is check in the eBid forums to see if your seller is a regular poster. You'll get an excellent idea of their customer approach, you'll know they're serious about selling on eBid, so you'll get rapid, attentive service. And in the extremely unlikely event of something going wrong, you know where to find them, and can confront them right there in front of the witnesses! (But do try the private approach first!)

What is the eBid forum?

All very well telling you to use forum members... but what does that mean?

A cuppa and some cake are the perfect accompaniment to the eBid forums. When you're shopping on eBid you don't just need to constrain yourself to the buying pages. You can visit the forums at any time by clicking on the forums tab at the top of the screen (dark green menu bar). Or you can go straight there now from this link, if you want to have a try.

The forums are a place for support, help and general chat. Most of the chit chat takes place in the area called "The Kitchen Table", the rest of the space is intended for serious discussion. But, frankly, there's quite a lot of cross-pollination! :D

So why not drop in and see what's going on? You don't need to post straight-away... just see if there's anything that interests you, and pick up some useful tips for buying and selling along the way! See you there!

A changing roll of eBid sellers I think you might like to check...

Who's my featured seller today? virtueandpraise sells "all kinds of" stuff, with a particular speciality in wedding gifts, so if you know someone with a big occasion coming up, take a visit.

Got a suggestion who should be my next featured seller? Propose them in the form at the foot of the page, and they might just find themselves top of the pops. :)

Kimbo's Ten Step Plan to Safe Buying on eBid

How to negotiate your first purchase and come out smiling!

1.Read the whole listing
Watch out for any small print, limits to your rights, dodgy terminology, make sure they take the payment method you want to use, ship how you prefer etc.

2.Check their feedback
Zero feedback is not automatically bad, we all had to start somewhere, but the lower the feedback the more cautious you'll need to be. A lot of negs means move on.

3.Check their All About Me page
A dedicated and professional seller will have taken the trouble to set up their information page, to let you know a little about themselves and their methods.

4.Ask a question about the item
"dump it and run" can be a problem on eBid because of the lower fees and long-term listings, so to make sure your seller is really around and paying attention, use the question facility and wait to see if they answer.

5.Bid or Buy
now you've checked their background and know they're really about, it's safe to bid or buy. Most items on eBid go for the start price, so the odds are good if you want to gamble on a bargain... but don't blame me if you get beaten!

6.Ask for an invoice
Don't pay until your seller has made contact. If you ask for an invoice you'll know they're paying attention and they can send you an official invoice with pay buttons included.

7.Check the numbers
In particular, you might need to check the postage - eBid's invoice system allows discounts and extras and it's sadly easy to get it wrong, so check the numbers and let your seller know if there's a problem.

8.Pay using a method you know and trust
If you're venturing into a new site and using a new seller, it's nice to have something you feel you can rely on! Choose a method you know you can reverse if anything goes wrong.

9.Watch your item & email so you know when the item is shipped
If it hasn't arrived in the expected time, let your seller know immediately so they can start investigating before it becomes a major problem.

10.Leave feedback
Once it's arrived, let you seller, and other buyers, know how well the purchase went - your seller will appreciate it, and it helps other newbies when they still at step 2!

Who should be my next featured seller?

Make your suggestions here!

Do you have a favourite seller on eBid? Somebody you think deserves a little extra exposure? Perhaps you haven't even bought from them, but they've helped you out in some way and you'd like to say thank you?
Propose them as my next featured seller. Tell me the user ID, and why you think they're the bee's knees, and I'll take a look.
Only one rule: don't propose yourself! If you want to add your own details, please do so in the main list. Thanks!

Hi...thanks for this opportunity. I nominate 0ctavia0fferings. She works very hard promoting and supporting eBid on the eBid site and on her home site of pheebay.com where she is a moderator. She is also a giant squid and a squid angel and she has a lens she updates nearly daily to support a 1 cent promotion where sellers can list an item to help drive traffic to the sites they sell on and their listings. I've done this for over 10 weeks now for eBid and another site I also sell on. I do know it is good for the site and has resulted in many, many new members and some good sales for myself as well! She's a great person and deserves our support and I have learned alot about selling, seo, and squidoo from this awesome lady. Hope you will consider her...... she is very generous with her time and help and I would love to see her rewarded in any way possible. Sincerely, Joanie
