We see hope in these 2 marketplaces!

eCrater vs Bonanzle

The past couple of years had been an exciting roller coaster ride for online sellers with news of people turning their backs from feebay and the creation of numerous so-called "Auction Sites". Well, there are a lot of such selling sites but eCrater and Bonanzle seems to be the hot favourite among them. Many see them as a beacon of hope to re-establish their business and rekindle the fun to be part of a warm community once again.

Like the traditional fable, Goliath may be strong and stubborn but David is agile and smarter! As we see the growing unpopularity of the Giant, we are also excited to witness the growth of the next "ebay". Sellers are joining these 2 marketplaces and once again found the warmth in being part of the new community in which the owner of the site really CARES.

Time for a little fun along the way? Given time, which marketplace do u think is the better one in terms of traffic and size?

a.k.a The Moon

Founded by Dimitri Slavov, eCrater was born on September 27, 2004. Dimitri takes on the role of a Godfather who selflessly created a marketplace to adopt sellers by providing them a free online shop, free sub-domain and an easy-to-use CMS (Content Management System). There are no fees involved, well, except if one use Paypal. Optionally, one can use Google checkout but it's only applicable to USA residents (at the time of this writing). The overall feel of the marketplace is that of a NEAT and UNCLUTTERED look. The forum is worth mentioning as it is filled with wealth of information and very helpful people. The head of the moderator is BigTallMensClothing but she is taking a more passive stance after being assisted by newer moderators like ACRead and others. eCrater gradually grew larger and saw its busiest influx of members soon after the feebay boycott on 15 Feb 2008.

eCrater currently ranks 4th in PSU website with 2,293,000 listings as in 15 Sep 2009. (Do remember that unlike feebay, the count does not include duplicate items)

"eCrater maintain a consistent 2,293,000 listings on 15 Sep 2009.

Bill Harding first founded Bonanzle in Jan 2008. Then Mark Dorsey joined in as a co-founder carrying out duties in the area of marketing. Together they launched a beta program. Unlike other auction sites with uninventive names, bonanzle captures audience worldwide with its jazzy name and bright colors. Listing is free and it charges a low commission fee for items sold. Sellers are able to list their wares in minutes. A useful feature is that they are also able to import items and FEEDBACKS from feebay to Bonanzle. In addition, Bonanzle introduce a first of its kind LIVE CHAT to all stores. Meaning buyers and sellers can communicate in real time much like negotiating face to face. This translates to more sales and better relationship. Like eCrater, it has an avid forum filled with excited people who would love to see the site grows.

Bonanzle currently ranks 3rd in PSU website with 2,328,000 listings as in 15 Sep 2009 (the count does not include duplicate items)

I think the vast majority of tempertranters sellers on Bonanzle are heading out their bizzy backdoor soon. Today was a highlighted event with pioneer sellers upset at site owners for not fixing their calcyswitch and they went bullet-istics (in a google sense of humor). eCrater appears to ave nothing to worry about because it manages to hold its head up instead of between their sellers' legs. In todays economy where competition tends to be fierce, a free pass of irratic entertaining behaviour within Bonanzle Discussion Forum becomes the results at the end of the day. They still are constantly reminded by the "free legal advisor" that she's a litigator by day and an alternate ebay seller by night, yet her current feedback on ebay earns her a 7 negatives within past 12 mos for basically = not delivering, yet she's on Bonanzle bragging about her accomphlishments at the bay, then you have a little black dog hanging on a dartboard avatar that reminds the membership as well as the owners of the site that she mainly "controls" what is right and what is never wrong on her end, then you have her entourage of followers (HUSH HUSH sweet charlotte & miss ramiro by way of sofias choice) egging her on for "more more more please" so that they can go into Drama. Its as if their constant strategy is to see how quick a topic can end up dumped into their Drama dept so that they can restart yet ANOTHER sweet smelling topic just so it can also work its way into Drama again. Its just so dumb that you get the impression one of the mgmt crew member is probably sleeping in his green shopping cart while the dramatic party heads into page 6 within 30 minutes. I have never seen anything so wild and ridiculous that I am fully convinced eCrater would not withstand such nonsense. They're blaming Bonanzle for not selling "their items" for them but they're so quick to offer big WELCOME hugs and the second you click away, they're complaining either about the newbie or the oldie. It's a sockhop but without the socks. Thank goodness for eCrater and it for the full impression the viewers can now very well know; that, eCrater just has o competition to worry about because they're in a league of their own. Looking forward to 2010 on eCrater. Now that, sounds like a winner to me!

Im going to go with Ecrater just for the fact that in the field I am in...collectibles, there seems to be a much wider selection on ecrater. Ebay ran me out and banned me due to their unbelievable standards. I truly hope that in time, one of these sites can thrive and flourish.

CovetAndLoveIt says:

There is nothing wrong with Bonanzle. I have a shop there, but I just don't see the traffic that I get on Ecrater. The traffic counts on Bonanzle are less and seem restricted to within the site.
My traffic on Ecrater comes directly through Google and other search engines and the hits are 10 times more than Bonanzle. So far, I've had sales on Ecrater and none on Bonanzle.

Ecrater wins hands down.
It works for me.

OrganicGiftsByDiana says:

I really like my eCRATER store http://OrganicGiftsByDiana.ecrater.com/ as it is so easy to use and the folks in the forum and the ning group are wonderful and helpful too.

Everywhere you go folks have heard of eCRATER because it is well established and has a very good reputation too.

You get tons of the benefits of a paid online store without paying a penny and you can make your online store have a custom look of your own to a certain extent too.

Organically Yours,
Diana

deepereyes says:

If eCrater can manage to maintain an excellent ongoing monitor within discussion forums then they will be up and beyond Bonanzle since most viewers judge what is written on Bonanzle with too many happy tots singing without words. Bonanzle could have a sudden overturn with buyers but at this given date it appears that selelrs are trading or buying from each other without real buyers as there are in other nonauctionstyle sites. It will be interesting to see if this can be done this summer season. Has anyone noticed eBay has reduced their sellers listing to closing fees? with good results I might add.

Susan says:

Bonanzle will most likley take the prize. I have a storefront on both Ecrater and Bonanzle. The ease of use I think will be another deciding factor. Not that Ecrater is difficult to use but submitting your feeds was a nightmare for me it only took 8 different times in changing this or that in order for them to approve it. Which is done by humans so there is a little delay in finding out just how you did. I did finally talk with support personally which finally got my feed corrected. Bonanzle also offers another feature that Ecrater does not as of yet that I am aware of. Bonanzle submits your feeds to Google on a regular basis. http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/GeminiSS http://geminiss.ecrater.com/

Susan

flouncefrolic says:

Being that eCrater has a proven track record of avoiding or control of their site with irratic behaviour from their membership, why is people acting crazy on Bonanzle when it is suppose to be FREE for everyone to use? I only go into the Discussion Forums usually after 12 midnight up until 2AM Central TIme because of my B&M situation. Most of my gang members are online during the day while I am away from pc but I find it better to be incharge when the owners are offline during this time and it gives me better control of adding my two-cents into the "gawdy pile" without any repercussions. The site is free to join and free to take advantage of and anyone wishing to pay for an established upgrade still gets the same equal rights as a free member seller. The only difference is a pretty green icon star at a membership price for couple of hundred annual dollars thereabouts, and that's it! No difference than the free membership. Everything is free including the forum abuse which is fun to watch happen because nothing else is happening other than a upcoming scheduled Bonanza that offers no true agenda. The gals in my team know how to knock em' down within those various discussion topics and there can only be one winner at the end titled, a Drama Queen. Bonanzle is just "ok" and nothing more than that. I use Bonanzle as "storage" and "temporary access" for adding all my items into my booth knowing they're not going to sell but at least they will be removed off from my Picture/my Document folders so that when I login at 2AM each night, its there ready for me to retransfer to CL or OLA (OnlineAuctions) and Ioffer....Now that gives me results using Bonanzle for free this way because it offers nothing more to me than storage and space unless a nice $1.00-$5.00 sell happens to occur on any of my gaudy vases I list there (but that would be a coincidence, lol)....Free is just that FREE so why not use them as your auctionsaver instead of your auctionserver? Poor Bonanzle, we just control them more than they realize...but its all good cause they refer to us as "dabomb"....

Bonanzle, why cause its newer and upto date. Ecrater has been around much longer and its not updating as quickley as bonanzle. I do happen to like and use both sites. They both offer something different. The only thing is I would like ecrater to "get with the program"

katbarton says:

In the long run it will be bonanzle. I do not sell on e-crater, so cannot compare sales, forums, help, support, or those issues, however, Having put together the Seattle bonanzleip, and spent time with the owners and tech people. They know what they are doing, and listen to the people.

lilacsndreams says:

I have signed up w/eCrater & had quite a time getting around there. When I requested some help notifying how I was having a hard time, my response was to check out these notes...most of the stuff was very outdated from few mths ago till up to 2 yrs ago. Was disappointed wth that.

Then...I go to Bonanzle & like anything new there are kinks to work thru, but what a difference!! You got help & answers very quickly there. Very easy place to get around, took me no time at all to set up my booth, and list things there. Very friendly & helpful atmosphere. Something I am not use to getting anywhere else. I will keep trying Bonanzle.

I Bonanzle! It is a great site and getting better and bigger everyday! Athough it is an on-line storefront, it has a feeling of a down-home, local shop. Questions are answered quickly and people are friendly. The selection is fantastic - lots and lots of booths to choose from - so you can always find what you are looking for... http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/andi

Bonanzle is a sure winner for me. I sell on Bonanzle and love how people friendly and tech easy this site is. The boyz: Mark and Bill are hands on support, always personal help and up to the point. I se a great future for this site.

ashsmh says:

I think both since each one caters to a different clientele on its own. But for the time being it would be Bonanzle since it embraces web2.0.

digitaldoodlebug says:

bonanzle! a great community, and i've already sold 4 things. ecrater was confusing to navigate and i never sold anything
bonanzle is now ahead of ecrater in number of listings

DesigningWoman says:

Absolutely Bonanzle! I've had zero sales on eCrater nor have I made purchases there. Not so for Bonanzle - I've had both sales and made purchases.

fromlu2you says:

Bonanzle. It has all the right karma. The boyz , Mark and Bill, are active owners that are with the times and keep Bonanzle in the for front of technology. This site is the best independent alternative to the evilbay. I should know I tried them all including Ecrater. Bobisbroke books is one of my booth.

Earrings4you says:

I select Bonanzle. I opened my booth on june 18 2009 and I have already sold items I am plan on staying on for a long time because they have excellent features, no hidden fees, is easy to use, fun to sell and shop on and much more! This site is amazing! A+

Cat and Mouse Game

It is interesting to see eCrater and Bonanzle moving up and down for the 3rd and 4th biggest Marketplace in the PSU website. Nobody knows for sure who and when one of them will deliver a knockout punch. A massive advertising campaign maybe?
