Goodbye Dolly! Have a Great Trip!!

She is leaving today to continue her eHow trip! January 2, 2010

Dolly Arrives in Cape May Point

Dolly is here! We thought she would be tired from her travels but not Dolly! She jumped right out of her box to share the excellent peppermint candy that ReuseIt so sweetly sent along! We are going to go visit the Cape May Point State Park before the sun sets!

Dolly at the state park

Dolly really had her heart set on surfing even though we told her how cold it is on the beach. When we got to the state park she decided it really was too cold and we should go up the lighthouse instead!

Dolly climbs the lighthouse.

We enjoyed the lighthouse. The 157-foot-high lighthouse is still an aid to navigation. Visitors who climb the 199 steps to the top of the lighthouse are rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the scenic Cape May peninsula. The first known lighthouse at Cape May was built in 1823. By 1847 a new lighthouse was erected on a high bluff, however, due to the encroaching sea and poor building design it was eventually dismantled. Built in 1859, the current lighthouse used the original bricks of the 1847 lighthouse.

Dolly is Bird Watching

Dolly brid watching in Cape May PointCape May is famous for its bird watching. Dolly had a wonderful time watching the birds and we even saw a bald eagle!
The tip of Cape May is one of the most popular sites in North America for viewing the fall bird migration. Many species of birds can be seen in the natural areas throughout the year.
Cape May Point is known as a major migratory route. Many sea/shore birds and songbirds migrate through this area in the spring. At the end of the summer, Dragonflies and Monarch Butterflies migrate through the area stopping briefly to gain their strength before continuing their journey across the Delaware Bay.

Dolly is really enjoying hawk watching

Cape May is viewed by many as the premier Hawk migration route of North America. In the fall hundreds of hawks are counted as they pass the narrow corridor of land along the Cape May peninsula heading south. This offers birdwatchers of all ages the opportunity to see these beautiful birds in flight as they soar across the fields and meadows, on their southward trek across the Delaware Bay.

Getting ready for Company!

Dolly is resting with the Christmas cards and Mr. SnowmanWe are expecting loads of company for the next two days to celebrate New Years so Dolly helped me shop and clean, she really is a trooper! We are both kicking back and resting for awhile before everyone gets here! Should be a great time. Tomorrow we will all go into Cape May and do the sightseeing around town. Dolly will get to see all the marvelous Victorian era buildings that still look so beautiful. If we're lucky we will be able to find some salt water taffy too!

Happy New Year from Dolly and her friends!!

Happy 2010!!Dolly had her own party going on with all her new friends-they had a blast celebrating New Years!!
Due to very wet weather (and a little snow) we postponed our trip to Cape May until today. We should have a great day before Dolly hits the road tomorrow!

Dolly was the hit of the party playing the baby grand!!

Dolly Loved Touring Victorian Cape May

All the Victorian architecture in Cape May was really worth seeing.
Dolly picked her favorite house to rest on the front porch.
They call the wonderful trim on these house 'gingerbread'.

Whirlwind Tour!!

We went to so many places in Cape May, these are just a few!

On the Victorian Mall in Cape May

Dolly really enjoyed shopping on the Victorian Mall in Cape May!
Interesting shops and fun things to do.

Dolly visited Congress Hall

Dolly loved Congress Hall. This hotel started as a boarding house in 1816. Its owner, Thomas H. Hughes was elected to Congress in 1828 and in honor of this the hotel was called Congress Hall. -- The famous 19th Century composer John Philip Sousa also loved Congress Hall. After conducting concerts on Congress Hall's lawn with his Marine Corps band throughout the season in 1882 he composed a march in honor of the hotel, the "Congress Hall March".

Congress Hall Visit

A final treat -visit to an old fashioned soda fountain!! Dolly loved it and the soda clerk!!
