Dolly Has Departed for Alabama!
The eHow writers have combined to show eHow Dolly the U.S.A. She started off from Hawaii where she lives with Pam. So far, she's been to Maine, then on to New York state, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Virginia, and South Florida. The rest of us are anxiously waiting our turns to play host.
Dolly has been snowed in several places. I'm hoping that when she comes to Florida that she leaves all that snow up north.
At last Dolly arrived on March 8th. Check below to see all the activities from her visit. She's now on her way to Alabama.

My Irish Dolly (a sing-along)
Sung to the tune of "My Irish Molly" (click on the video below and follow along with the printed lyrics)
Down in a corner of my heart a love is what you've found
Every time I look into your Irish eyes so blue
They seem to whisper "Darling one, my love is all for you"
Oh, Dolly, my Irish Dolly, my sweet, achusla dear
I'm fairly off my trolley, my Irish Dolly when you are near
Springtime you know is ringtime, come dear now don't be slow
Change your name, go out with game,
Begorrah, wouldn't I do the same my Irish Dolly O
(traditional Irish song)

Comments on Dolly's Florida Travels
from the eHow Forums
- Dang! Dolly is trying to make it snow in Florida! That girl just has a wicked streak when it comes to weather! (David S.)
- I know for a fact Dolly loves parties!! (NYs Eve!) Looks like she has made another new friend!! (survivoryea)
- Virginia, Dolly looked so sweet with that leprechaun! Looks like she's making eyes at him. I hope you instructed her on the dangers of men with wooden hearts. LOL! (Diane Cass)
- Virginia, it looks like Dolly has had a good time with you. Thankfully, the gators and burmese pythons on the loose in your and Robin's state kept their distance. (Animal Planet last night). YIKES! (veryirie)
-
Great lens Virginia! I tried to leave a comment but it kept saying I got the security word wrong, it was hard to read.
Anyway, my mom used to make the blueberry buckle and it looked delicious; I'm sure Dolly liked it! (jseven) - Virginia - Dolly's outfit for St Patty's Day is really cute! haha And the yellow panties were made by Shirley. :) Great pics!! Your neighborhood community is really picturesque! (veryirie)
- Happy St. Patricks Day Dolly! Everyone! Virginea, I love our lens. (Diane Cass)
-
Good job, Virginia! I loved your Dolly pictures and that beautiful, sunny weather where you live!
And as for Dolly kissing the leprechaun: I think you have a great career ahead of you as a matchmaker. Can't think of a better partner for our Dolly! (suzyhomeeconomy) -
Virginia - I love the lens you created!! What a great visit Dolly had with you !
Looking forward to seeing her next stop in Alabama! (survivoryea)

Countdown to The date Dolly should arrive in Alabama
We Went All Out for St Patricks's Day
Monday, March 15
I wore a black shirt with green, glittery shamrocks on it. Not to be outdone, Dolly dressed for the party too. Her full-length dress featured shamrocks on a white background. Her sash says "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" and the ribbon around her neck is fastened with a shamrock pin. I think she was hoping to WOW the leprechaun.

Does She Have a Driver's License?
Monday, March 15
We took the golf cart over to the village center in Solivita, the retirement community that I live in. Dolly wanted to drive the golf cart and demonstrated that she could fit on the steering wheel if only I would take care of the foot pedals. It didn't sound safe to me and besides, Florida requires a driver's license for driving a golf cart on a public road.

Since I wouldn't let Dolly drive the golf cart, she then wanted to ride in the rear seat. There were no seat belts and the golf cart goes 30 miles an hour, so I insisted that she ride in front with me.

Getting Ready for the Party
Thursday, March 11th
Dolly - the Homemaker
Wednesday, March 10
We were scheduled for golf again today. I offered to try smuggling Dolly past the golf ranger, but she didn't like the idea of hiding under a golf towel in the golf cart. Instead she opted for lounging on the lanai. Another sunny day, and the warmest in months at 80 degrees.
When we returned from golf, we plunged into washing, drying and folding clothes. Then we made a blueberry buckle (sort of a coffee cake). I was a little concerned that Dolly's vinyl dress might melt as she kept a close eye on the baking project. I should have ordered one of these aprons for her.

We were going to plant some flowers but ran out of daylight. We'll save that project for tomorrow, when I'm home all day.
“I've never seen a white bowling ball before”
A Day of Golf
Tuesday, March 9th
We were scheduled for golf, so I got Dolly set with a club, her own golf ball, score card and a sun visor.
She seemed to think we were going bowling, though there were no thumb and finger holes in the ball. No problem, since she has no thumbs and fingers anyway. She asked me where she should mark her strikes on the scorecard.
It turned out that the golf course would only allow two people per golf cart. I told them that Dolly was actually a mascot and not a person, but they wouldn't let us take her along. Dolly overheard what I said and I think was a little offended by the "not a person" wording. Oops.
Anyway, she had to stay home while I golfed. I scored 97 for 18 holes and the temperature was around 71 degrees. It's too bad that she missed seeing the egrets, herons, and multiple alligators on the golf course. Probably she saw the same things in our backyard though. There was a turkey in the backyard this morning.
Dolly Relaxing on the Lanai
March 8th
She's here! I got back from my eye check-up and shopping to find her sitting on the doorstep around 4:30. What a bad hostess I am.
I took her out to the lanai right away to get some sunshine after her travel time. Seeing the lake, she wanted to take a swim until I pointed out the alligator sunning on the opposite bank. I gave her a tour of my flowers so there would be photos for the calendar. Then she relaxed at the bistro table clasping an empty wine glass. I think she was ready for happy hour to start.
I convinced her to wait for dinner time, so she's keeping an eye on my husband while he's getting dinner ready. That gave me a chance to sneak off to the computer to send all of you an update.

I haven't quite figured out how to get Dolly's photo with the gator after she arrives. This could be a bit tricky.
