Eagle Scout: What is the Court of Honor Ceremony?

So you've just been invited to a "Court of Honor" for a young man receiving his Eagle Scout Award. The only thing going through your head is, "I know this is a big deal, what am I suppose to do?" Don't be worried. You will be observing from the crowd and usually there are refreshments! The ceremony is quite formal with a great deal of tradition.

Most people not affiliated with the Boy Scouts, already have a working knowledge of the Eagle Scout Award. They know it's a big deal even if they don't know the specifics. Go with that thought. The young man worked very hard. Through many years and many levels of scouts he's already achieved awards of distinction, this one is the big one! It's the capstone to his scouting career. The Court of Honor is designed to honor him and motivate his troop members to continue their scouting journey.

There will be kind words from his troop and even letters of congratulations from local dignitaries. His parents will be proud and right by his side. Should you bring gifts? This is a personal decision. One that is appreciated by the scout, but neither a requirement, nor an expectation. A card of congratulations is wonderful. If you choose to give a gift it would be similar to a "birthday" gift. Something that may not have great cash value but is thoughtful or symbolic of this achievement.
