What do you say in a Thank You note?
I have seen two types of thank you notes from young people. Well, actually three.
The first type doesn't exist. The thank you was said in person, with no follow up. While we all understand, and don't really keep track of whether we received a thank you note, receiving one is very impressive and thoughtful!
The second type is simple and to the point. For example, Dear Mrs. Jones, Thank you for your donation of cookies and drinks. It was really appreciated. Sincerely, John
That type of note was better than not receiving anything. It was specific with what the donation was. That is good. However, the followup is weak because it is generic. "It was really appreciated."
Now, put all of this together with a personal ending, and you have a dynamic, yet still simple thank you note.
Dear Mrs. Jones,
Thank you for the cookies and drinks. We were working hard in the hot sun, drinking lots of water. When you came with the cookies and pop, we were all invigorated! Not only were they delicious, but they picked up our spirits! We completed our long day of work in the hot sun, because of your thoughtfulness!
It was really appreciated!
Sincerely,
John

Have a Picnic, or Gathering to Thank Those Who Helped With Your Eagle Project
Another way to thank people is to have an informal gaghering. Invite your fellow scouts, leaders, and the people for whom you helped through your project idea. Here are some party ideas to make it fit them theme of an Eagle Scout. It can have the theme of Patriotic, with red, white and blue. You can have flags for decorations, and candy bags, and cupcakes in those colors. By keeping the color theme red, white and blue, it will be a reminder of the patriotic feel to country and community.

- Several, including my own. Got my Eagle in February of 1969. My project involved running a series of bicycle safety inspections as well as an "obstacle course" which required safe starts and stops, turns signaled, crossing simulated intersections, etc. If a bike required simple repairs, reflectors, etc. we put them on for the folks who attended.

- Oh man! I totally know how that goes. I did my Eagle Project about 4 years ago and there are so many people involved. Parents, family, leaders, the community, the church organization that I associate myself with. You are definitely right, there are so many people that deserve some thank you ecards.
