Really useful, our dog suffered from ear mites for a while, thank goodness he is past that. We had to take him to several vets and try some alternative methods.

Great lens! You should always treat the dog's fur too, as the mites and eggs can get transferred to the fur, particularly if they're rubbing at their ears. Found that out the hard way! If you don't treat the entire dog, they tend to reinfest!

Excellent info on ear mites. I know from first hand rescues that one should not assume ear mites because the vet can't tell unless they put it under the microscope. It can be just ear wax with dirt, ear mites or a yeast infection. The treatment for each is different. Thanks for sharing. Bear hugs, Frankster

Well, speaking of ear mites, we have a new mouth to feed ... a orange feral cat that joined the colony recently ... he was just out back this morning ... and I can see his right ear is LOADED! What to do? He needs to be "fixed" too!
  • JaguarJulie Sep 10, 2010 @ 5:32 am | delete
Well DAMN ... it is me again ... Debbie, can one of those ear mites from those feral cats get into MY ear? I've been having something strange going on with my left ear ... I won't bore you with the specifics, but started wondering about this possibility!

thanks for mentioning that ear mites are contagious, lots of people forget about that and it causes other animals harm when one dog has mites and they start populating in other dogs, dog parks are great places to get mites so watch for them. another good treatment we use for ear mites and ear infection symptoms to relieve ear yeast infections and for ear mites treatment is Dr Dogs Ear Oil, from http://drdogs247.com and also on Amazon.com All natural treatment for ear infections in dogs, cats, whatever has sore ears, meet soothing relief. My dogs ears are finally normal (for once)

Great research, I am glad to see that people actually believe you can treat problems without synthetic chemicals. 1000s of years and people just let ear mites destroy their dogs and cats? Probably not.
