Paul and I were married, we had two beautiful girls aged 18 months and 3, and we were also expecting our third baby. We were financially secure, both had decent jobs that allowed us to provide a comfortable lifestyle for our family. We were happily married, our health was good, and life just couldn't be better. But one day that all came crashing down, it was an experience that will never be forgotten.

Now, everyone that has children knows, that often kids get sick. Especially around the winter months, they often develop colds and viruses. So, when my 18 month old daughter Brooklyn developed signs of an illness, 14days before Christmas, I really didn't think too much of it. Her symptoms were basically the usual, crankiness, fatigue, and general feel of non-wellbeing. But as a couple of days passed, instead of her symptoms becoming less pronounced, she started to physically look worse. That's when I decided it was time to go to the emergency room at the hospital, and have a doctor take a look. Thank God I did!

When we got to the emergency department at the Children's Hospital, they gave Brooklyn a physical exam. They really didn't think too much was going on, thought maybe I was overreacting a little. But Moms know their children, and to make me feel more comfortable, they said they would do some simple blood tests just to be on the safe side. When the blood tests came in, I think even the doctors were surprised with the results. The tests showed that her liver was inflamed, to a level that was concerning. They asked if we would be willing to stay the night, so that they could monitor Brooklyn and do some more tests in the morning. We agreed.
