Earn Money from Squidoo

In the beginning I was skeptic. I read an article on the web that claimed after several months the author had earned only a fraction of a dollar. But I decided to give Squidoo a try. After all, they have no fees for joining. All I would be risking was time and effort. And, if you really read such articles, you find the person had only one lens that was left unattended! So, rather than becoming discouraged I decided to move ahead.

Whether I made anything from Squidoo was not so important when I started as advertising and getting traffic to my site. Now the emphasis has shifted. Squidoo and Zazzle have become the focus of my online endeavors.

I believe you can earn money on Squidoo as well. But it does take time and effort.

It Is All about Traffic

Traffic is the driving force in making money on the web, and most people understand that. But with Squidoo there is two kinds of traffic, and each brings its own benefit.

Squidoo has Amazon, eBay, Zazzle, and Cafe' Press modules, among others. Traffic to your products on any of these, whether or not it is from another Squid, will help with sales if your products are worth buying. So, write on interesting topics and bring in the traffic.

The modules do not have to contain your products! You can sell anyone's products. And, if a person enters a site like Amazon via your module, you may benefit from their future purchases until someone else tags their computer, or time expires. Since other Squids can find a product on your computer, then buy through their own lens and module, traffic from other Squids will probably not help you sell other people's products. However, outsiders who visit Squadoo can bring in nice profits.

Squidoo also pays for some higher ranked lenses. All traffic is important in getting your rank up. So, if other Squids happen by, treat them nicely and return the favor.

Specify the Seller

If you wish, you can specify the seller in money making modules. This allows you to promote your own products. It also allows, in some cases, that you select more items than if you do not specify the seller. You can sell more items from nine than from five.

Getting Traffic

To get the most traffic write on popular topics. People read what they like!

Topic aside, maximize links. How can you get links? Well, first you have two places to have links, your Squidoo page and your lenses. Both are important. Your Squidoo rank seems to be important to your lens rank, so just getting to a higher level helps all of your lenses.

Links to your Squidoo page come when you leave comments on others' lenses. The comment is from you, not a lens. It is a link to you, the lensmaster. So, try to leave a comment where you can. Most lenses have a Guestbook. Sign it and level up. Yes, it gives you points, for signing as well as a link. If you can, join a Fan Club. Your icon will be left with a link back to you. In fact, it is possible to click these icons.

Comments and joining Fan Clubs often makes a new friend who will come over and look at one or more of your lenses. Yes, you help the other Squids, but they also help you. This is a friendly place as long as you make it so.

When others like your lenses or leave comments they leave links to you. Except for spam, which we delete, try to leave those comments up.

Another source of links is the modules. If you link to nine Zazzle items you have nine links. If you link to twenty-five items on an Amazon search, you have twenty-five links. If you add My Lenses modules to your lenses they will each give all of the others a link. The more lenses you have, the easier it is to get links.

You will also find modules that allow others to leave their website. They can help as well.

Using the eBay Module

When using an eBay module always check to see what you are getting. It is best if you use a known seller, but that may not be possible. Key words often do not filter enough, or block too much. You may need to change them and try again.

The payout on eBay sales is quite generous. There will be a delay, because eBay allows sellers to accept returns. They must be certain the transaction is final. But, money coming is better than no money at all.

There Are Several Different Amazon Modules

Amazon modules come in several varieties. Amazon Search allows you to have a lengthy list. The basic module allows you to have five items. So, the Amazon Search might be better in many cases. But to maximize Amazon, use Amazon Plexo, the interactive module.

Again, the royalties are generous. Squidoo has a policy of sharing and having happy Squids, who make even more money to share.

This is an example of a list of books found under travel on Amazon. m Here, I allowed Amazon to pick. I would normally check that I am picking to avoid children's books, but the list seems nice as is.

This is the Amazon Plexo Lens. It is more interactive, and allows longer leist. Your readers can add to it, and vote items up or down.
