Step 1 - Find A Niche
You first step is to research and locate a niche. Don't just guess.Ultimately your success will dependent on the niche you choose. So put the time and effort into selecting an appropriate niche.
Firstly make a list of broad categories you are interested in, places you've been or topics you have very good knowledge on and like speaking or reading about. It's important you like what your doing.
Secondly go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
The keyword tool inside your campaigns if you have an AdWords account is far better, but the free one i adequate for your first attempt.

I don't recommend you go looking for too much information as this is the biggest down fall of most beginners.
Google External Search Based Keyword Tool Results
When you enter a broad category like horse the results come back in a table with three very important columns. The first is the actual keywords people are using to search. The second column is the competition by Pay Per Click advertisers for that keyword. The third column is the monthly searches.
For our purposes here we want to find keywords that have less then 50% of the competition bar graph shaded. We want one keyword with over 2000 searches per month, or two to three very similar keywords with a combined search total over 2000.
Step 2 - Finding Affiliate Products To Match Your Niche
There is no point targeting a niche if you are unable to find products to meet the need.

Step 3 - Find A Hosting Solution
Once you have confirmed you have found a need and a solution to meet that need its time to go stand in front of them. Let's develop a web site to make money by servicing this need.Normally I would recommend you go and get a low cost domain with GoDaddy or Host Gator, but for learning purposes a Squidoo Lens will be perfect.
Please do your keyword research first and try to at least match your lens name to one of your keywords or keyword phrases.
Step 4 - Getting Content
Firstly Google your keyword terms. Start bookmaking any thing decent in a sub-folder called Content.
Check out your competitors and Google images. YouTube may have great promotional or educational content that you can use.

Step 5 - Build A Relationship Dont Just Sell
Don't just start your lens with a sales pitch. Build a relationship with your customers by providing the best information possible.
Content is king. Keep it short, keep it relevant and always try to over deliver.

The dilemma you face is that whilst you may initially think the $19 per month for the ultimate Auto responder the cost of an interruption to your business and hassle to make the change over in the future is very significant. Have a schedule where once per week, fortnight or month you add some new aspect.
